And it wasn’t even a contest this year. The Mighty Roger Federer looked bad. His very strong backhand looked useless. Though credit to Nadal, he was playing flawless and it didn’t look like he was going to be beat, even if Roger was on top of his game. So it was quick work with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 match. I didn’t get to see the whole match due to chasing Nigel around. But you didn’t need to watch much to know which was it was going.

Hopefully if the two meet again in the Wimbledon final like last year, it will be more competitive.

The two and a half (plus) year reign is over. For the first time since the 2005 Australian Open, a name other then Federer or Nadal will go on a mens’ Grand Slam trophy. Novak Djokovic won the Aussie Open this past weekend (his first Grand Slam in his second try). He is slowly proving to be a true contender. As much as I love Federer, I am glad that someone else can hang with him and Nadal. It will make this tennis season very interesting. (Though I still don’t think anyone can beat Federer at Wimbledon.)
And Maria Sharapova came back from injuries the last couple of years to prove she is still a true threat. She won her third Grand Slam this past weekend. She is now only short a French Open title to complete a...

Beer Can Appreciation Day
Thanks to Marcia’s Uncle Joe for passing this along. He sent me an ECARD regarding the “holiday.” You can find out a little more about it HERE.
Now, I am not normally one to drink beer from a can. It’s just not as good. Though my Uncle Steve pointed out that Yuengling’s lager actually tastes as good, if not better, from a can then a bottle. I have tried it from a can recently, but couldn’t make a hard and fast conclusion. ...

Lousy Week
Due to a lot of issues, this past week wasn’t all that fun. Marcia had a migraine that lasted three days. Finally on Thursday I had to take her to the emergency room. The general mood of things was just bad all week. Some of this has to do with me putting my foot down about someone that we associate with. That hasn’t helped relations with this person’s spouse. However, Marcia has backed me up 100% with my stance, but still at times I feel that I am being childish. That feeling though comes mostly when I look at my faults, which I had been doing a lot of last week.
Anyway, it’s over and time to move on. And hopefully I will be in a better mood to post things. Especially...

Wow! It was some match. Had to get through his rival Rafael Nadal. It was also the first time since knocking out Pete Sampras in 2001 that Federer had to play five sets in a match at Wimbledon. The final tally was 7-6 (7), 4-6, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2.
Totally exciting match from start to finish. Great shots by both. Federer’s serve was his biggest weapon, having over 20 aces. Nadal however was using great ground strokes, even some best reserved for his favorite surface of clay. It helped since Rafa isn’t the best server on the circuit (and he only had one ace the whole match).
Federer equaled the great feat of Bjorn Borg by winning five Wimbledon titles in a row, and the great Swede was on hand to witness history....

So just TWO YEARS AGO Venus Williams became the lowest seeded player in the Ladies’ tournament at Wimbledon to win it all. She was seeded 14th. Well this year, she broke her own record. She won from the 23rd seed. You would think they would give her more credit for being a three time champ coming into this year’s tournament. However, she was ranked 31st in the world, and had missed most of the first half of the season this year with a wrist injury. So in many respects, they were giving her respect.
Today she took on an up and coming star in the women’s game, Marion Bartoli of France. Williams defeated Bartoli 6-4,...

Rafael Nadal is the French Open champ for the third straight year; 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. And for the second straight year he beat the world’s number one player in the finals, Roger Federer, denying him his career Grand Slam yet again.
I watched most of the match with my Mother-In-Law (along with Marcia, all three of us are avid tennis fans). And what we had hoped would be a great match turned into a gut wrenchingly bad performance by Roger Federer. Though he took the second set, he looked like he had little confidence in himself. What didn’t help was his first serve was just awful.
Federer must have been rather upset with himself because he refused the request from Bud Collins for an after match interview.

Poor Sick Little Boy
The Munchkin Man is sick. The poor little guy has been so out of it the last three days. He ended up taking TWO naps Thursday afternoon between my coming home from work and eating dinner. We are lucky to get him take two naps in a day! The first time he just cuddled up with a blanket on the floor after playing for a few minutes. And Friday was pretty much the same way.
Marcia has been giving him Pedialyte and/or LiquiLyte and crackers the last few days. And sometimes he even doesn’t want those. At least the last two days he has kept everything down. It is amazing to see a kid that is so active and wanting to do so much just sit there and look so pitiful. It is really heartbreaking....

Birthday Weekend 2006!
Had two birthday parties to attend this weekend. On Saturday was my Brother-In-Law David’s son Lyric’s bash. Originally schedule for the park where the last few where held, we ended up at David and Catherine’s place instead due to the remnants of Ernesto. Then Sunday it was my Sister-In-Law’s son Ryan’s get together.
Both were a lot of fun, and in the afternoon. It seems to work out best that way with Nigel. This way we can still get him home and settled down before that last feeding of the night. At both parties Nigel was back to his jabbering a mile-a-minute phase. He seemed to really enjoy himself. And as always, he doesn’t have any problems...

On Saturday, Marcia and I started watching the Ladies’ Final at Wimbledon. I was honestly surprised to see Amelie Mauresmo in the final, even though ranked and seeded number one. She has had a habit of being a top 5 player and not making Grand Slam Finals. She had won the Australian Open earlier this year, and though winning at the time, it was be default when Justine Henin-Hardenne had to quit due to injury. So here was Mauresmo’s chance at Wimbledon to prove that she could beat Henin-Hardenne. And she did, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
She looked tight the first set, making me believe that she wouldn’t win much then a few more games. She proved me wrong though.
