Still on track. A somewhat convincing 986-877 victory over Minnesota combined with Milwaukee hanging over 1000 points on Edmonton, has pushed my team into second place. Still four weeks to go in the regular season though. And the next five teams are still awfully close. May be tough to hold onto a playoff spot without winning three of the remaining games. And one of those games will be against Edmonton, who is the three-time defending champ.
Here’s the ladder:

Ouch! Lost a tough one to the first place Los Angeles Highwaymen. The final score was 973-944. What made it really tough was that one of my best guys, Jordan Lewis, had an awful game. He only scored 27 points. His season average so far this year has hovered around 100 points. Even if he was 30 points below average, we would have won.
However, we are still in the playoff race with five games left in the regular season, sitting nicely in third place. Here is the ladder:

Six game winning streak. Just in time, too. I took on the first place team this past week (Los Angeles Highwaymen). Turned into a 925-830 victory. Even with my team grabbing more points these last few weeks, I still expected to lose. Is it just me or is victory sweeter when you have low expectations?
This coming weekend will be another important match. I will be taking on the Richmond Dragons, who currently are one place higher then my Philly Freedom. Here is the ladder:

I used to watch Formula One all the time. Made a point of getting up early on Sunday to watch the races. Over the years I have lost touch with the sport, but still keep my eye on it. Especially now that a Polish driver was slowly making waves. (My heritage is Polish so I am always rootin’ for ‘em.) That being Robert Kubica (pronounced koo-bit-zah) who drives for Sauber-BMW. Well this past Sunday, after two of the big name drivers were knocked out in a pit lane accident, Kubica pounced on the opportunity and WON the race.

My team has hit a groove. A five game winning streak. This week it was over Brian’s Jersey Shore Crushers. It has become an annual event dubbed the “War on the Shore”. Though I think it was supposed to have taken place last weekend (Memorial Day weekend). The final score was 944-866.
An amazing stat was that my 944 was only third highest score of the week. The Southern Warriors put up 990, and the Richmond Dragons put up an amazing 1107 points!
The season is now half over and my team has moved up to fourth place. The top six qualify for the playoffs, with the top two teams getting a first round bye. Here’s the current ladder:

… have you looked at the standings lately? As for this morning, guess who has the best record in baseball?
The Tampa Bay Rays!!
Here’s a team that has never won more then 70 games in a season, and they already have 31, and there’s still four months of baseball left to play!
It will be interesting to see if they can at least continue on a pace to finish the season at .500 or better (81 wins). I doubt they are a real threat to dethrone the Red Sox as the AL East Champs.

One of my son’s namesakes, Nigel Mansell, was recently feature by ESPN as one of the Top 25 Racers of all time. Mansell falls in at number 24. It was nice to see another Formula One star along with him in the first five of the series (Niki Lauda). I remember Mansell as being rather brash, but backing it up on the track. He never let down. It was great watching him compete, and very hard, against his teammate Nelson Piquet (another fave of mine) when both were driving for Williams in the mid 80’s.

After a week off, the WAFA was in action again last week. And my team continues to improve. They have now won three straight. Lucky for me they did well, because I put no thought into the line-up. Usually I go through all the stats and use averages, sometimes making player adjustments if one player has been playing well or another has been on the downfall, even though averaging well. But given the lack of time this weekend, I just went with the same line-up as the week before. It gave me an 855-787 victory over the Milwaukee Robins.
This week I go up against the Hippo Regius Friars. Since being taken over by Will at the beginning of last season, the team has not won a game. He’s due. But hopefully he isn’t really...

Haven’t been keeping up with this. I am sure all my usual readers have been wondering how my teams has been doing.
(OK, more then likely not, but I like to dream.)
My team has been having some issues this season, but the last two weeks have come up victorious. Hopefully it is the start of things. This week was a squeaker. The Freedom beat Glendale 898-870. The amazing thing is that Glendale’s captain scored an amazing 330 points! He was one of the first players on their team to finish their game this weekend, so I was figuring on a loss. But thankfully (for me) there were a few rather low scores on the rest of their roster, while my team came in with some very good games from most of the roster.

Last night I went to the Phillies game. It was the second time I have seen the Fightin’s since moving to Pennsylvania. I would like to go more, but living up in the Lehigh Valley makes it quite a trip. But last night it was put together by Brian, a friend and fellow Aussie Rules fantasy league player, from the sports forum that we are members of, the Chris Creamer Sports Forum. He put together the site mostly to track the different logos teams have used over the years, but the forum is more then active on other aspects of sports, as well as off-topic conversation.
It was really cool to meet Brian, Will, and Steve. (Will is also a participant in the Aussie Rules league.)...
