Stole this one from Roger. He POSTED his top 25, stipulating that there was no set number. So I gave it a try. But I couldn’t stop at 25.

:)

Rules: Create a non-objective list of your favorite albums of the last 20 years (anything released between 1990 and now), remember, this is your FAVORITES so, if Maroon 5’s “Songs About Jane” was your favorite album, that should be number 1, even if you feel “Nevermind” by Nirvana was a more influential album.

Like I said, I went to 50....

And I don’t mean 50 cents.

The Name Game
Some seem to be pushing the idea of the Big Ten changing it’s name for the first sports seasons when Nebraska is added. They had a cool logo to incorporate their eleventh member Penn State. The best I have heard is the Big Midwest. However, now that the Big XII is down to ten teams, is it just me or should the two conferences change names?

OK, that’s the easy goofy idea, but that’s all I got. Well, other then the two conferences just keeping their names because the name doesn’t exactly mean the number but the conference itself.

Yes Concert
Marcia and I haven’t attended a Yes concert in ages. ...

One song? Really? Just one? Are you nuts?!

I can’t limit myself to one favorite song. There are too many that I really love, and it’s not even a matter of picking one from a certain genre. I just can’t do it. But I can list some of my all-time favorite songs. When I joined Facebook there was a request going around to have friends post notes on their profiles and one was to list your ten favorite songs. I am just going to copy and paste that list. It really hasn’t changed over the coarse of a year and a half.

1. “And You and I” by Yes – One of the songs that started me on the path to my musical tastes,...

For those that know me, this will be no big surprise. For those who have read my blog over the past few years, you may know this as well. The obvious choice is Geddy Lee. Yes, the gawky looking, even though he’s in his mid 50′s now, big nosed bass player, keyboardist, and singer of the rock band Rush.

In my mind, there is no better bass player in the business. (I should specify rock, since I can name a...

Stole this from Samurai Frog. (And I’m working on one that I stole from Roger.)

1. What are you listening to right now?
The GeoTrax train theme song.

2. What song(s) make(s) you sad?
There is one by a prog rock band called After Crying. It’s sung in the band’s native language (I believe Hungarian). It is very heady. One of the first times I heard it was just after my Dad called me to tell me my Grandfather had died. It always reminds me of that day.

3. What is the most annoying song in the world?
“The Chicken Dance”? “The Macarena”?

4. Your all time favorite band?
Rush....

One of my favorite musicians, Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist of the rock band Rush, arranged and recorded a new version of the Hockey Night in Canada theme that debuted a couple of nights ago, though traditionally broadcast on Saturdays. Here it is …..

Typical of Peart’s...

4. King’s X
5. Return to Forever
6. Weather Report
7. Porcupine Tree

To fill in a gap, here are some clips of some great bass playing.

First, Tal Wilkenfeld. She is currently the bass player for Jeff Beck’s live band. As a matter of fact, the two guys playing with her are also part of his live band. The drummer is Vinny Colaiuta, of Frank Zappa fame.

This...

Eventually, when I get a job and we move, I will be able to get all my CD’s that have been in storage. They have been there for almost three years. It has been really tough since I got the iPod and would be able to put all, or at least most of these albums on it. And it hurts even more so now with a much, much bigger hard drive. Below is one song that I dearly miss.

The Toronto, Ontario based trio Triumph is what I would call a guilty pleasure of mine. I grew up listening to these guys, and grew fond of them before I was really introduced to that OTHER Toronto, Ontario based trio. You know, Rush? Anyway …. there is a lot of early 80′s heavy metal / hard rock cheese throughout their albums,...

I saw this too late to post on the proper day, but yesterday was the 30th anniversary of possibly the craziest night in baseball history, and huge statement in music. I remember watching parts of this live.

For those of you that don’t know about this, or don’t remember, watch the VIDEO. For those that don’t want to watch it, on July 12, 1979, the White Sox and Tigers were playing a double header at Comisky Park. Between games a local Chicago DJ was hosting a promotion to get fans to come to the game. If you bring a disco record, your ticket is only 98 cents. Then after game one, they blew up all the disco records brought to the park...
