One of my favorite musicians, Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist of the rock band Rush, arranged and recorded a new version of the Hockey Night in Canada theme that debuted a couple of nights ago, though traditionally broadcast on Saturdays. Here it is …..

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
This is going to sound funny,...
To fill in a gap, here are some clips of some great bass playing.
First, Tal Wilkenfeld. She is currently the bass player for Jeff Beck’s live band. As a matter of fact, the two guys playing with her are also part of his live band. The drummer is Vinny Colaiuta, of Frank Zappa fame.
Eventually, when I get a job and we move, I will be able to get all my CD’s that have been in storage. They have been there for almost three years. It has been really tough since I got the iPod and would be able to put all, or at least most of these albums on it. And it hurts even more so now with a much, much bigger hard drive. Below is one song that I dearly miss.
The Toronto, Ontario based trio Triumph is what I would call a guilty pleasure of mine. I grew up listening to these guys, and grew fond of them before I was really introduced to that OTHER Toronto, Ontario based trio. You know, Rush? Anyway …. there is a lot of early 80’s heavy metal / hard rock cheese throughout their albums,...
I saw this too late to post on the proper day, but yesterday was the 30th anniversary of possibly the craziest night in baseball history, and huge statement in music. I remember watching parts of this live.
For those of you that don’t know about this, or don’t remember, watch the VIDEO. For those that don’t want to watch it, on July 12, 1979, the White Sox and Tigers were playing a double header at Comisky Park. Between games a local Chicago DJ was hosting a promotion to get fans to come to the game. If you bring a disco record, your ticket is only 98 cents. Then after game one, they blew up all the disco records brought to the park...
I wouldn’t consider myself a basketball fan these days. I did follow the NBA and college hoops in my younger days. It was during this time that I knew of Wayman Tisdale. However, he made more of a name for me in his second career, and one that he was probably more talented at: being a jazz musician. A bassist more specifically. I have been out of the loop buying his more recent albums, but was very surprised and saddened to hear of his death two days ago. He lost a two year battle with cancer.
Here is a meme that I saw Samurai Frog answer. (I am posting this now, and other things that follow in the next few days, while I put together my “trip to Detroit” post and concentrate on my resume and job postings.)
First Job: Paper boy for The Detroit News.
First Real Job: Does Burger King count? That is what I left my paper route for. After BK was a job with Acumen Industries as a draftsman.
First Favorite Politician: Tough to say. I didn’t follow politics close enough until recently. I hate to put Barack Obama, because he hasn’t had enough time. But he is the only one I can think...
Roger posted this MEME a while back. I finally got around to doing it. This idea is to list the artists that you have 100 or more songs of on your iPod/MP3 player. My list is amazingly shorter then I thought, so I expanded it. I included any artist with 70 or more. Partly this was due to liking bands that have long songs. Yes and Pink Floyd especially. I am missing a few of their albums each, but felt they should be included.
Are you sick and tired of me talking about Rush? This is the fourth album in my “series”, which I have been stretching out over years now. “Grace Under Pressure” though holds a special place in my history with the band. It was the first album I bought of theirs at the time of...
A couple of weeks ago my favorite musician, Geddy Lee, was interviewed, of a sort, by a writer from Entertainment Weekly. They asked him some questions regarding their new DVD release, and their upcoming appearance in the move “I Love You Man”, as well as others, and only a few showed up in the magazine article. But the highlight was a wine tasting. Geddy is a wine fanatic, and has an extensive collection of his own. It is something that has only been becoming public knowledge though.
“I don’t like talking about it in public because I worry I will come off like some pretentious f—— bozo.”
