A week or so before Christmas, I bought the movie “Up” for myself. I have gained a great affinity for the work of Pixar. It stars the voice talents of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, newcomer Jordan Nagai, and in smaller roles, Bob Peterson, Delroy Lindo, Jerome Ranft, and as usual John Ratzenberger makes an appearance, too.
For those of you in the world that haven’t seen the movie yet, all seven of you, here is the best description...
Being unemployed, and having a newborn, you tend to lose track of the days.
Parents
My parents are heading out to Pennsylvania to spend some time with their newest grandchild today. They will be here through Friday. We are looking forward to seeing them again. As it stands, if I am not employed by Thanksgiving, we will not be making the trek out to Michigan for Christmas. So this may be the last time we see them in a while.
Lions
Not that I am a huge NFL fan to begin with, and though from Detroit and clinging to my baseball and hockey loyalties, I am not a Lions fan. But in some respects, I am excited a bit this year. I think that the team’s direction, for the first time...
So Nigel has been crazy about “Monsters, Inc.” lately. I would say that we average about 1 1/2 viewings a day. The only thing bringing that number down lately has been “Finding Nemo”. But I have found that I really love “Monsters, Inc.”, too. So one day while looking for the special trailers that didn’t feature any scenes from the movie on YouTube, I came across the following video. It uses the audio from “The Dark Knight” but images from “Monsters, Inc.”
About two weeks ago or so Marcia, Nigel, and I watched “Monsters, Inc.” using the voice talents of Billy Crystal and John Goodman, along with Steve Buscemi, the late James Coburn, Jennifer Tilly, and a young lady name Mary Gibbs, who according to IMDB has only this movie to her credit.
The story for this movie, to me, was just priceless. The whole idea was amazingly cool. James P. Sullivan, aka Sully (Goodman), is a living legend. Mike Wazowski, aka Mikey (Crystal), is his one-eyed roomy and assistant at work. They work at...
A couple of weeks ago, Marcia, Nigel, and I watched “A Bug’s Life”, another Pixar creation, with the voice talents of David Foley, Kevin Spacey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and a very young Hayden Panettiere. Helping out further were Phyllis Diller, Richard Kind, David Hyde Pierce, the late Joe Ranft, Denis Leary, the late Jonathan Harris, Madeline Kahn, Bonnie Hunt, Michael McShane, John Ratzenberger, Brad Garrett, the late Roddy McDowall, Edie McClurg, and Alex Rocco. For the record, Marcia had seen this movie countless times. It was the first time Nigel and I had seen it.
Well over a month ago Marcia and I watched the 2008 Academy Award’s winner for “Best Picture” “Slumdog Millionaire” starring Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, and Anil Kapoor. (Yes, I am finally getting around to reviewing it.)
From IMDB and Claudio Carvalho (per usual), here is a rundown:
In Mumbai, the eighteen year-old orphan from the slums Jamal Malik (Patel) is tortured by the policemen in a precinct accused of cheating a game show. Jamal, who has no education and works...
Some time ago, Marcia and I watched “Yes Man” starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel.
Here is the description from IMDB, written by Claudio Carvalho (he does a great job of hitting the points without spoilers):
The banker Carl Allen is a lonely man with low self-esteem after his divorce with Stephanie, for whom he still yearns. He avoids his best friend Peter. He has a boring job, stalled in a bureaucratic position in the loan department of a bank; and he spends his spare time watching DVDs. When he meets by chance his...
A few days back, maybe more, Marcia and I watched “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson, and Julia Ormond.
From IMDB, and someone going by the username of Huggo, here is the description:
On the day that Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans, elderly Daisy Williams (nee Fuller) is on her deathbed in a New Orleans hospital. At her side is her adult daughter, Caroline. Daisy...
About a week ago, Marcia and I watched the recent remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith, and Kathy Bates.
From what I have read, the stories differ in a few ways. But here is the basic description from IMDB and Claudio Carvalho:
When a sphere from outer space lands in the Central Park in Manhattan, a group of scientists are summoned by the American government under the call of the Secretary of Defense...
A couple of weeks ago, my Mother-in-Law watched Nigel for Marcia and I, and we snuck away to see the new “Star Trek” movie. It starred Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Bones, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scott, John Cho as Sulu, and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Also playing important roles were Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, and Leonard Nimoy. Yes, THE Leornard Nimoy, playing none other then Spock ….. too.
