Never thought the first game would see such a score. And quite honestly, the game was closer then that. The Wings last two goals came with two and a half minutes left in the game or less.

First, it was nice to see the ceremonial first puck drop with two legends representing both teams. Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman did the honors.

The first period was impressive, in my opinion, for both teams. The Penguins didn’t show any first Finals game jitters at all. They were very composed, went about their business,...

Because my employer is doing work in the steel making industry, we have hired a few employees over the years that are originally from Pittsburgh. Two of them are rather big Penguins fans. So we have a little wager on the outcome of the Stanley Cup Finals. And much like the mayors’ of cities in these kind of circumstances, we are offering something from our “home town” as it was.

If the Red Wings win, I will receive a box of cookies from a maker that is based in Pittsburgh. If the Penguins win the series, I will either be getting them a 12-pack of Vernors’ ginger ale or a bag of Sanders’ candy (haven’t decided which yet). Luckily for me, these will be easy to obtain. My Mom sent me a link to...

The Red Wings are making a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, their fifth in 14 years.

Wings’ Captain Nicklas Lidstrom poses with the Campbell Bowl and deputy commissioner Bill Daly.

I haven’t been able to watch many of the Wings’ games over the years, but my heart is still in Hockeytown. I will be making a point though of watching the Finals. Probably even taping them like I did the previous four Cup Finals appearances in my lifetime.

They will have their work cut out for them this year. Like three of the four prior times (1997 was the exception), the...

We’re Back
We got back Monday afternoon from our visit to Michigan. It was a good trip, though too short as always. The ride home was pretty good considering it rained a good portion of the way, and we had a forced stop of 30 minutes waiting for an accident to clear. Marcia was sleeping at the time, and Nigel was watching a video, so I did a crossword puzzle while waiting.

Bookworm Carnival
The Bookworm Carnival that I am hosting has finally been put together. You can see the PAGE here on my site. The theme was urban / contemporary fantasy. A few books I have read were reviewed, but some good suggestions...

Last Day of Work
So today is my last day of work. Well, at least at my current employer. I will miss some of it. The fellow employees were really great. Very helpful when they needed to be. Very friendly when they needed to be. And it was really cool working for my supervisor, seeing that he has the same taste in beer as I do, and is a hockey fan (he’s Canadian, so it goes with the territory).

However, I am looking forward to going back to my new/old employer. I really enjoyed working with quite a few people there, and even went out to dinner from time to time with two of them (though on separate occasions). And I really am looking forward to being busy at work again, and with things that are really...

Hats off to Marquette High School and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School, both in Michigan. The two teams were named co-champions in the Michigan high school hockey state championships. Why were they named co-champs? Because the officials felt that it was dangerous for the players to continue playing another overtime period after completing the EIGHT prior! You can read two articles about the event: HERE and HERE. (In case you don’t want to read them, they were worried about the safety of the players. Also, regulation periods in Michigan...

So it’s time to reveal my answers to the most recent edition of “Ask Scooter Anything”. As in the past, my answers are not made to offend anyone. They are my opinions, and only that. Not the truth. Except for those times when I am talking about my past, because those things actually happened, or my family. Oh, and my opinions of Gary Bettman, as always, should be universally excepted as pure fact.

My brother Brian asked the following questions:

What does the “K” in K-Mart stand for?

You grew up in Detroit and don’t know this? I find that amazing....

Brandon Inge Still a Tiger
In an ARTICLE that showed up on the Detroit Free Press web site, it appears that Brandon Inge may still be around Comerica Park this season. After talking with the GM and manager Jim Leyland, he said he would accept being the Tigers’ back-up catcher and super sub. That’s good news for Tigers’ fans. However, Inge says he is not happy about it. He ultimately wants to start at third base, his favorite position, with some team. But remaining in Detroit is still a good option. Also, both the Tigers’ other catchers (including Ivan Rodriguez) will be free agents at...

Yes, it has been over ten years since Vladimir Konstantinov laced them up for the Red Wings. But it’s clips like this that remind us how much we still miss him.

And did Claude Lemieux ever deserve better?

Trying to catch-up on a lot of stuff that I have seen and want to comment on, or just other things that I have missed.

Happy Birthday Mom!
Forgot to post my Happy Birthday wishes to my Mom. It was back on November 30th. With all the hub-bub of Nigel’s party and my parents trip out here, I totally forgot to mention it here. Of course our down time didn’t help either.

Nigel’s Two Year Old Check-Up
Nigel had his two year old well visit last Tuesday afternoon. All continues to go well, though he is a bit behind in talking. This has been a concern of mine and Marcia’s for a bit now, and we have been trying to push him to say more. We bought a book a few weeks...
