About Me

There are two version of this. You can either read the short version, which is below. Or read the LONG VERSION. It’s up to you.

SHORT VERSION

I grew up in a northeast suburb of Detroit with two younger brothers and a younger sister. I was a big sports fanatic as a kid, and usually could be found playing baseball, football, basketball, riding bikes, or other goofiness with my brothers and the kids down the street during my youth.

Just before graduating from high school I started working with a company that designed mechanical equipment. I have moved up many levels, but essentially still work in the same type of field. Through my employment with one company I traveled a lot and even was temporarily relocated to three different cities.

I met my wife Marcia through an internet based fan club for the band Yes that was started by my now brother-in-law. Marcia and I lived in two places before settling down in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania (where she grew up).

We have a son named Nigel who was born in late November of 2005. He is the light of out lives. Like any child, there are days when he frustrates us often, but then he does something to give us back our perspective and bring our love back into focus. Then in late September of 2009 Ian came along. He is too little to cause problems like Nigel does … for now.

Another member of the family is our Golden Retriever named Molson (yes, after the beer). Speaking of beer, I would be what is considered a “beer snob” given my taste in beers.

I am not the big sports fanatic that I once was, but still love baseball (rooting for my hometown Tigers, grew into a Phillies fan, and now have to deal with the Pirates), hockey (rooting for my hometown Red Wings, and “arguing” with all my Penguins fan co-workers), and tennis (Roger and Rafa). I also find myself liking more obscure sports, with Australian rules football ranking highest (root for the Adelaide Crows of the AFL). I also have participated now for a few years in an Aussie rules fantasy league.

I love music. Between Marcia and I we have over 1000 CD’s or pseudo albums (meaning downloads). Rock and jazz are my favorites, leaning more on progressive rock and jazz fusion along with instrumental electronica, but I will give anything a listen at least once.

I love to read, too. I started with science fiction for many years during my “college days” and beyond, but moved onto epic/traditional fantasy, urban/contemporary fantasy, and general fiction and literature. The most non-fiction reading I do is newspaper/magazine/internet articles or columns,. Though I do have interest in biographies, just never gotten around to reading any.

So that about does it for the short version.
