There are two parts to this post.
World Australian Football Association
I am sure all of you remember my postings about my Australian football fantasy team. Well, our newest season started five weeks ago. I “moved” my team to Detroit and renamed them the Cougars. I did this for a few of reasons, not that it matters, but mostly to give one member, Brian, his hometown for his team. Given my work status when I did it, Marcia, Nigel, Ian, and I could have wound up in Texas for all we know. So why not move the team to my hometown.
Anyway, my team is on a three game winning streak. What is most interesting was our expansion this year. We could only keep eight players unlike ten or more from past seasons. Because of this, I had to give up long-time player Jonathan Brown of the Brisbane Lions. He was ninth in average points last year for me, and sometimes can be erradtic with his performances. He was quickly scooped up early in the first round of the draft before my pick and has played quite well. However, the last pick of the draft, which I didn’t make, I was given Michael Rischitelli, also of Brisbane. I didn’t check his stats from previous seasons, but was a bit bummed by his average from last year. It was well below 80 points per game, a good 10 points per game below the guy in front of him. Turns out though that Rischitelli has been in the top four in scoring for me thus far.
So here is the ladder through week five:
Next week I play Short Pump, one of the new teams this year.
United Lacrosse League
For four years now, and on the same forum as the Aussie football league, I have been a member of a fantasy lacrosse league. This is through the NLL, the indoor lacrosse league. My team has been the Detroit Dragons for a while, and have fared well at times. One season I only lost three games. Unfortunately one of them was a playoff game, and all THREE games were to Brian’s team, the Philadelphia Force. The Force went on to win the championship that season and successfully defended the following season.
This year though, I turned the tides. Even though my team finished 6-4, I was tied with three other teams and qualified for the playoffs. I then turned it into the league championship. I didn’t make any changes to my team as the season went on, other then changing line-ups the first couple of weeks. And during our move I didn’t even do that. My luck though was that I had five of my six best players in already so it might not have made a big difference. But my team played very well during the playoffs, and I faced teams on bad weeks, winning both games in blow-outs.
Hopefully I can successfully defend my title next year.
