Domino’s Pizza? YUCK!

Domino’s pizza, to me, has always been the worst pizza in the world. Like is stated in the following video, I thought the crust tasted like cardboard, the sauce like ketchup, and that frozen pizza was better. And the frozen pizza comment comes from years ago, since companies like DiGornio has raised the bar there, too. (I wouldn’t say that DiGornio’s claim is quite all that, but for frozen pizza, they are the tops!)

There are shorter commercials showing on TV and I have heard that Domino’s is taking some flak over these. From my point of view, this was something that Domino’s NEEDED TO DO. To admit that they were well behind everyone in taste, even though second in the market place. To be able to step up and say they needed to change, again to me, is smart business. All the best businesses in the world know when it’s time to change and make the best of it. Some say that this is saying negative things about the loyal customers of Domino’s. I’m sorry, but it seems you have bad taste in pizza. (And though I have always hated Domino’s, I still adhere to the cliche that even bad pizza is good.) However, even though your opinions have been stomped on a bit, you are (possibly) going to get better pizza out of the deal.

There are no Domino’s in our area. Actually, there is only one of the big four chained pizza places in our area (Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa John’s, and Little Caesars), and it’s a good twenty minutes away at best. But given what Domino’s is claiming, and using honesty, I am willing to give them another chance.

SIDE NOTES:
Also, just for “stats” purposes, I have driven by the world headquarters of Domino’s quite a few times. It’s in the southeast corner of the M-23 / M-14 interchange. Also, the founder of Domino’s, Tom Monaghan, was once the owner of the Detroit Tigers. He sold the team to Mike Ilitch, the founder of Little Caesars. Also, being originally from the Detroit area myself, I should know pizza. Other then the automobile industry, Detroit is well known for their pizza, as well as other local chains (I was usually partial to Jet’s).

You’re right that the marketing folks think this approach is terrible, but it’s also true that Domino’s claim to fame was its delivery time, not its actual product, which I agree is TERRIBLE.

When did you start accepting ads on your blog? Clever that it is disguised as a blog post!
