I was fooling myself when I said earlier that I was getting back in the swing of reading. It is obvious that I am in a funk. I have stopped two books in the middle, and both books were by authors that I really like. Authors that I have read a few books by of each, and liked all of them. But both these books seemed so blah. This last one is actually turning out to be horrible. It can’t be. It just can’t. So I am not sure what I am going to do. Probably just play it cool for a bit. Pick something up to take with us when we go to Detroit later this week. And if it doesn’t work out, then maybe just dump the idea of reading for a couple of weeks. Who knows. Or pick up one of the few non-fiction reads I have. I have...

So what is sadder to this Red Wings’ fan then seeing the names of the 2008-2009 Pittsburgh Penguins engraved on the Stanley Cup? Well, it’s something that probably most hockey fans are still sad about, or maybe just PO’d.

Here it is …..

snp

What a wonderful reminder, for years to come, of the stupidity that we had to put up with. But then again, maybe it’s good that it’s there. Then every team that wins, or has won, the Cup since can remember it vividly the next time they...

Really? And give up Lupul AND Sbisa?

(And their first round draft pick this year AND next year!)

I just don’t understand. Why give up two promising players, one more proven then the other (Lupul over Sbisa), and two FIRST ROUND picks, for someone who is nearing the end of his career, gets paid $6.25 million this coming season, and has turned into a hack? Why is it that the Flyers continue to try and re-create the Broad Street Bullies? The game is different now. It isn’t going to work!

Now is a good time to find a job that will move me out of the area. The last thing I need to do now is watch hockey games with that idiot playing the blueline and hearing the announcers praise his efforts.

Some time ago, Marcia and I watched “Yes Man” starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel.

Here is the description from IMDB, written by Claudio Carvalho (he does a great job of hitting the points without spoilers):

The banker Carl Allen is a lonely man with low self-esteem after his divorce with Stephanie, for whom he still yearns. He avoids his best friend Peter. He has a boring job, stalled in a bureaucratic position in the loan department of a bank; and he spends his spare time watching DVDs. When he meets by chance his...

Work (Again)
Since posting the update on Tuesday, I have gotten three more leads, and one will be interviewing me on Friday. That one is in York. Of the two others, one of them is in about the same area, and then one is in south Jersey. I have had so many calls for jobs now in south Jersey, I am beginning to worry that they are all for the same employer. Most of these recruiters won’t tell you the name of the place until they are ready to interview you. We are scheduled to go to Michigan to visit family for the July 4th weekend. Don’t want to be overly optimistic, but maybe we will have to cancel the trip because I will have more interviews.

Hockey
Still stinging a bit...

WOW! This has to be the best group in the history of the Hall.

Or at least close to it.

The longest serving captain in the history of the NHL, winner of three Cups, and 6th in career points. One of the best defenseman the NHL has seen, and arguably the best American born defenseman to play in the NHL. The third leading goal scorer in NHL history, and first son of a hall-of-famer to be inducted. And the highest scoring left wing in NHL history. Or in other words: Steve Yzerman, Brian Leetch, Brett Hull, and Luc Robitaille.

Movies
I have a couple more movie reviews coming soon. One possibly tomorrow. Then one later this week. Marcia and I, for some dumb reason, have started renting them from the place around the corner. We just recently put our Netflix account on hold. We will be changing all this soon. Though I wish it was for other reasons.

Work
The search continues. I have four leads to jobs right now. One is a sort of local job. We would still be moving, but just to get closer. Probably could hold out a little bit, but if I were to get this job, we would still probably move right away. Two of the job leads are in south New Jersey. One of them I got from a former co-worker after reconnecting...

This one was done previously by Mr. SamuraiFrog. And you must be WARNED that if you look at his meme, the header of his blog, meaning the very top of his blog, has a picture of a woman in a state of dress that may offend some. Her back is turned, but it is not something you might want to look at when in the company of those who might not want or should not see it.

1.) What author do you own the most books by?

Neil Gaiman by far. The strength of that is his Sandman series. I have two copies of the series. A ten book version in trade paperback, and a four book version in leatherbound hardcover. On top of that, I believe I have a copy of...

I would like to pass along a heartfelt Happy Father’s Day wish to all the Dads out there (Todd, Brian, David, Roger, and any others I might have missed!). Foremost though, Happy Father’s Day wishes to my Dad! I hope all of you have a great day.

nigel and me

Not sure what Nigel and I may be doing, but I know Marcia has plans to make lasagna for me. I also have a nice big bottle of Chimay waiting, as well. If the weather is nice, we may head over to the playground. Or take a walk. But I hope to get in a little nap, and some reading,...

So, I have finally posted the answers to your questions. Sorry for the delay. The Cup Finals and finding a job have taken up much of my time.

————————-

Internet friend Roger asked the following questions:

Current SI question #1: Should the NHL ban fighting?

I am not sure. From a marketing stand point, I can see the pluses of banning it. There has been a lot of talk about how fighting hurts the game’s image. Especially since over the last dozen years or so, marketing the game to gain a bigger audience has been a key issue. However, violence sells. Just look at the new...
