Saw Roger’s a few days ago. Thought I would play along.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I love the idea of using gift bags. However, I have stuck with wrapping paper as much as I can handle. It’s cheaper. That was my thinking though even years ago.
2. Real tree or artificial?
I prefer an artificial. Just easier to take care of, and if you find something well priced, pays for itself in a few years. I have enjoyed the times that I hunted and cut down a real one though.
3. When do you put up the tree?
When I have, at least a two to three weeks before Christmas.
4. When do you take the tree down?
Never really paid attention, but knew by New Year’s Day it was time to take it down. That changed though with meeting Marcia. She is adamant about keeping it up until Epiphany.
5. Do you like eggnog?
Nope.
6. Favorite gifts received as a child?
I was into so many different things, depending on the year. Nothing really sticks out. Though I do know that I usually got some great stuff every year.
7. Hardest person to buy for?
Marcia’s Uncle Joe.
8. Easiest person to buy for?
My brother-in-law David. Sure, he has an Amazon.Com Wish List, which helps. But even without it, he’s very easy. Like he says about me, “All I need to do is find something that I would like and that he doesn’t already have.”
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes. Haven’t put it up the last few years though. It’s in storage.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Neither. I tried one year to do Christmas cards, and it’s just a hassle. No offense to family and friends. Sorry that you go through the trouble to send Marcia, Nigel, and I one. But we won’t be sending any out this year either.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I don’t want to say. I’m afraid to offend the giver.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
“A Christmas Story” of course!
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Early November if we know what to get people. I wouldn’t mind starting earlier.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
No. Though our Pizza Night gang used to do a White Elephant, and I know one of the gifts I got went back into the pile the next year.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
My Grandma G’s chocolate chip cookies. Or someone making them to her old recipe. Also, either my Mom or someone else made this blueberry cheesecake and cut it up into brownie sized chunks.
16. Lights on the tree?
I prefer white. I have a couple of sets of mixed color ones that have eight different settings of what the lights can do. The eighth setting is rotating through the other seven settings. I still like those.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
“Carol of the Bells” and on the more religious side “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
We will be spending Christmas either at my Mother-In-Law’s (which is home for now), or at Catherine and David’s. On the 26th we head to Michigan for a few days.
19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Sure can!
Uh, do I have to name them now?
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Either is fine. Though I think some of the star designs are more unique.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Christmas morning. But I like the idea of opening one gift, if available, on Christmas Eve.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
The malls!
23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
A tradition in my family was for my brothers, my sister, and I to pick out an ornament each year. For a while there we were big on getting college sports team themed ornaments. I tried to get colleges that had hockey teams. Given that, and my parents collection, I liked having a huge array of different styles.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
We used to have city chicken (fried pork on a skewer) every Christmas (and Thanksgiving). I loved that stuff! But I am happy with anything. So long as we have it with mashed potatoes.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
The end of terrorism. A better economy.
More realistically, I wouldn’t mind “Absolute Sandman, Vol. 4″, completing my set. Or “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman. But the thing I want most for Christmas this year is having a good time with both families, and getting to watch Nigel’s excitement now that he knows what wonders presents can be.
26. Who is most likely to respond to this?
Don’t know. Roger already did this, so I doubt anyone else will.
