The Philadelphia Phillies are one win away from winning the World Series. They may fall into this category of “Lovable Losers”, but given their recent history, they are overshadowed by the Chicago Cubs. Even though the Phillies have won less NL pennants then the Cubs (16 for the Cubs, only 6 for the Phillies), and because the Phillies are currently in their fourth World Series appearance since 1980, and having won that trip in ‘80, they lost the tag. The Cubs haven’t been to the World Series since 1945, and haven’t won it all since 1908. Streaks are what matters most.
Beano Cook, though a college football analyst/historian for ESPN, pointed out something great this past weekend, and is very true.
