Not a nod to the Bangles either.
Busy
Still very busy and not keeping up with my posts like I had been. Marcia and I haven’t even been watching any movies, and my reading has slowed down quite a bit the last few weeks, so there is not a lot to post about. We haven’t been taking many pictures, if any at all, of Nigel. (Though with the weather being favorable, we had been taking him to the playground just about every day last week.) So eventually I will be posting more.
Nutmeg
Many of your know, if not all that read my blog, that Marcia and I have a Golden Retriever that we named Molson. He turned seven years old in early July. Marcia’s sister Paula and her husband bought one of Molson’s littermates when we picked up Molson. They named her Nutmeg. Unfortunately Nutmeg was put down this past Saturday afternoon. She had developed a problem with her pancreas two weekend ago and was not responding to medication, even “crashing” a few times. I know it was a tough decision for both.
When they were puppies we would often get the two together to play. Even up to the time they were four and five years old. After spending a lot of time with one another, they would both tend to be a little depressed though after. It had been a while since we had done that, and I kind of wish we had more recently, but you can’t predict things like this.
Phillies v. Rays
Not the two teams experts and analysts picked to be in the World Series at the beginning of the season (though I am sure many thought the Phillies could make the playoffs at least). But that’s what we are in store for. I think it is going to be a very exciting series.
Church
This past Sunday was Marcia’s second week with her new church. This coming Thursday will be her first week taking over the choir. Nigel and I have gone both weeks with her, and I am really liking the place. It is Solebury United Methodist Church.
The Pastor is very musically inclined which really pleased Marcia. He is a very good singer and quite good with the guitar. After service this past Sunday he was playing some songs for three children and Nigel joined in, dancing around and clapping his hands. When Pastor was done and got up to put the guitar away, Nigel was following him as if he was very interested in the instrument. Pastor’s energy is amazing. You could say that he probably puts passion in everything he does.
The members of the choir found out that I have sung in the past and are interested in having me join. I was talking to one of them about that, but said that without a babysitter it might not be possible. He then suggested that he would talk to his daughters about coming along and watching Nigel during practice. The nice thing is that there is literally a school on the second floor of the church (a pre-school with four rooms, though only enough room for maybe 40 kids). There are all kinds of things for Nigel to play with. And this church has a dedicated set of sisters (not nuns, actual siblings) that take care of the nursery during services.
Some of the wonder we feel with this place may be because of the problem encountered at her most recent employer, but I am sure we would feel this way about Solebury UMC anyway.
Counterparts
One of my favorite albums turns 15 years old today. “Counterparts” by Rush. Not that this is really anything of note to others. It just makes me feel old. “Counterparts” is one of Rush’s “new” albums. I remember the day I heard “Stick It Out” (the second song on the album) when it was first played on the radio before it’s release. I was so taken by it. I was already a huge fan of the band, but hearing that song made me even more excited about the album. And the rest of it didn’t let me down.

Counterparts: I think the biggest reason it still feels like a “new” album is because in the last 15 years, they have only release 3 more studio albums.
But it completely rocks.
