For only the second time in their history, the Fightin’ Phillies won the World Series.

And like a typical Philly fan, Marcia wasn’t sold with only one strike left to go.

But now the city of Philadelphia has won a major sports championship, ending their 25 year drought (the last one was the 76′ers in 1983). May the City of Brotherly Love enjoy it.

I have started reading a blog called “Electronic Cerebrectomy” written by someone using the name Samurai Frog. I heard about it from Roger. Now, just a warning before you go running to check it out. I would rate the blog “R”. And some of the posts are highly geared towards men. But don’t let the reading of this blog be the reason to judge either I or Roger.

Mr. Frog is very up front about his support of Obama and his policies and/or stances on issues. In a recent POST he talks about socialism and how the word is being used to...

In October? When did I move back to Michigan?

For those of you not in the Philadelphia area, or at least not near enough to be considered the “area”, and interested in watching the World Series tonight … well, I don’t think it’s gonna happen. You see, Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. It’s been snowing for almost three hours this morning. And not just some light flurries. It’s been looking like a mid-January storm out there. Nothing is sticking, but if Mr. Selig was smart, he should call the game off for tonight now. It’s going to be too cold to being with. They should have never started the game last night, or at least pulled the tarp on the field two...

The Philadelphia Phillies are one win away from winning the World Series. They may fall into this category of “Lovable Losers”, but given their recent history, they are overshadowed by the Chicago Cubs. Even though the Phillies have won less NL pennants then the Cubs (16 for the Cubs, only 6 for the Phillies), and because the Phillies are currently in their fourth World Series appearance since 1980, and having won that trip in ’80, they lost the tag. The Cubs haven’t been to the World Series since 1945, and haven’t won it all since 1908. Streaks are what matters most.

Beano Cook, though a college football analyst/historian for ESPN, pointed out something great this past weekend, and is very true.

The Autumn version. We have gone a few times, but this particular day (middle of last week) was a bit brisk. We haven’t been back since, though mostly because I have been coming home late and we don’t have much sunlight left at those times.

Couldn’t help but laugh out loud at this one.

I miss Bill Watterson, too. (The artist behind “Calvin and Hobbes” who retired the strip.) But Stephen Pastis and his strip “Pearls Before Swine” (above), though nowhere near as well drawn as C&H, has been a new favorite over the last few years. It’s dark sometimes. Other times it’s cheesy. Sometimes it makes you groan (especially some of Pig’s observations). And like with this one, Pastis even makes fun of himself.

On Monday afternoon I finished reading “Ghostwritten” by David Mitchell. This was his debut novel and was the 1999 recipient of the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize for British literature.

From the back of the book cover:

… engages us in a literary trek across the world of human experience through a mesmerizing series of linked narratives. At once as alike and distinct as any two pinpoints on the glob, nine characters – nine characters-a terrorist in Okinawa, a record-shop clerk in Tokyo, a money-laundering British financier in Hong Kong, an old woman running a tea shack in China,...

Roger POSTED something on his site that prompted me to do this one. It is one that I have been contemplating asking for a while now. If you were given the opportunity to endorse a product, what ones would you choose and why?

Anything that I would is because I honestly think the product is great. For instance, Old Spice Deodorant. Why? On three occasions I was wearing this deodorant and was sweating (I usually do when it’s over 70 degrees and I am moving around) and was very near a woman. At some point the woman mentioned how good I smelled, one of them even asked if it was a cologne. I use the “Fresh” scent version,...

Not a nod to the Bangles either.

Busy
Still very busy and not keeping up with my posts like I had been. Marcia and I haven’t even been watching any movies, and my reading has slowed down quite a bit the last few weeks, so there is not a lot to post about. We haven’t been taking many pictures, if any at all, of Nigel. (Though with the weather being favorable, we had been taking him to the playground just about every day last week.) So eventually I will be posting more.

Nutmeg
Many of your know, if not all that read my blog, that Marcia and I have a Golden Retriever that we named Molson. He turned seven years old in early July. Marcia’s sister Paula and her...
