I didn’t get to see more then three games of the US Open Final last night, but was ecstatic to see Roger Federer win his 5th in a row, and also put himself one behind tying Pete Sampras for most career Grand Slam victories. Last night was (unlucky) 13 for Roger.

For the record, the second seeded Federer beat Andy Murray, who was seeded sixth, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2.

Nigel babbles a lot. Sometimes it seems like he is trying to tell Marcia and/or I something, but we just don’t understand. Sometimes he seems to be saying something regarding his trains and the track, because we hear both of his words for it. But back on Friday, Nigel put three words together that were clear, and it was obvious that it was a sentence.
I took him to a toy store to find a replacement for one of his trains. (It disappeared in or under something, or possibly one of his cousins that has a habit of walking off with toys did just that.) The store didn’t have this one, but did have another that Nigel has learned the name of. It’s Salty the dockyard diesel. He doesn’t say the “ty”,...

I usually don’t post these, but thought it would be fun. I found two of them through Roger’s SITE. The third one, about hockey, I found after finishing the director quiz.

Over this past holiday weekend I also finished reading “The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil” by George Saunders.

From Amazon.Com’s book description:
Welcome to Inner Horner, a nation so small it can only accommodate one citizen at a time. The other six citizens must wait their turns in the Short-Term Residency Zone of the surrounding country of Outer Horner. It’s a long-standing arrangement between the fantastical, not-exactly-human citizens of the two countries. But when Inner Horner suddenly shrinks, forcing three-quarters of the citizen then in residence over the border into Outer Horner...

This past weekend I finished reading the graphic novel version of “The Eternals”, brought back to life by Neil Gaiman, with artwork by John Romita Jr.

From Publishers Weekly and Amazon.Com, here is the description:
Jack Kirby’s old Eternals series gets a serious dusting-off from Gaiman and artist Romita. The Eternals, a super-race, are now scattered and forgetful of their powers and immortality, living mortal human lives of supreme normalcy (Sersi is a New York party girl, while Makkari believes himself to be Bellevue ER doc Mark Curry). Meanwhile their age-old enemies, the Deviants,...

But had to post it anyway. From the comic strip “Reality Check” by Dave Whamond on August 27, 2008.

For those that know the song, I am sure you are groaning.

Last week I finished reading “Man in the Dark” by Paul Auster.

Listed as Amazon.Com’s product description, and also the synopsis on the dust jacket, here is a rundown on the plot:
Seventy-two-year-old August Brill is recovering from a car accident in his daughter’s house in Vermont. When sleep refuses to come, he lies in bed and tells himself stories, struggling to push back thoughts about things he would prefer to forget - his wife’s recent death and the horrific murder of his granddaughter’s boyfriend, Titus. The retired book critic imagines a parallel world in which...

Speech Therapy
Nigel’s speech therapy had been put on hold for a bit. The insurance through my employer doesn’t think that it is something that is necessary. My coverage through Lehigh Cement (and through three months of COBRA) thought that it was necessary. Marcia and I are looking into some other “insurance” possibilities, something that would cover most of the costs for us. Also there is another state funded and free to parents program that Nigel will be having an evaluation for soon. Either way, we are taking him to a few more sessions with his current therapist (Ms. Amy) regardless if the first funding comes through (who will also reimburse us) or not. We feel it is important. Just...
