For a while now I have had “Yellowknife” by Steve Zipp listed as the next book I was going to read. Part of this was due to waiting for it’s arrival. But now there is another reason that I kept putting it off, and now have ultimately set it aside for a good long while.
As I mentioned, I joined in on “The 2nd Canadian Book Challenge”. Part of this was due to Mr. Zipp himself. “Yellowknife” is his debut novel and was published by a very small press. It is very hard to find, more so not living in Canada. I contacted him asking for information in purchasing a copy and he gave me the option to join the challenge and he would send me a free copy. I decided to take him up on the offer, as I had MENTIONED before.
When I received the copy of his book, he had signed it. I didn’t even think he would do that, and it wasn’t until Marcia asked me did I even think to look. I was pleasantly surprised to see that he did. But this has created another problem. I don’t want to read this copy now. I don’t ever plan on selling the book on eBay or anything like that. That’s not why I found it so cool to have a signed copy. But I don’t want to take the chance that I could damage it. I usually read during lunch at work (if I don’t go out), or whenever I find time, and there are all kinds of opportunities to damage a book. Sure, I could read something else at work, but then it would take even longer to read it, and I don’t like taking on more then one book at a time, unless one is an audio book for the work commutes.
So as it stands now, I still have over 10 months to obtain another copy of the book and read it, or talk myself into reading it anyways. But the reading of it is going on hold for right now.
