This past Sunday, as I mentioned previously, Marcia and I saw “The Dark Knight” starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman.

Here is a brief description thanks to IMDB and someone that goes by the name Peteagassi:

Batman (Bale) raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Eckhart), Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but...

Was told about an interesting web site a couple of days ago. The site is called FieldReport.Com and allows people to write stories about events in their life. The idea is to have members review/rate the stories and the member with the highest score after a certain amount of time wins cash prizes.

I have it on good authority that the site is legit. I am not sure if I will be posting any “field reports” myself. It would be nice to win money for writing, but I don’t see myself having anything interesting enough, or well written enough, to win. But I have enjoyed reading some of the reports.

Over the weekend Marcia and I watched “The Shadow” starring Alec Baldwin and those listed below. This was based off the old radio show/comic strip/pulp novel characters.

shadowpost.jpg

The description comes from Amazon.Com:

Alec Baldwin plays the Shadow, a.k.a. Lamont Cranston, who arrives in New York from his decadent life in Tibet, fully reformed and disciplined in his ability “to cloud men’s minds.” A crime fighter who lurks in the dark recesses of the city, the Shadow faces his most deadly challenge when Shiwan Khan (John Lone), the last surviving descendant of Genghis Khan, hatches...

Zero One - “Ozone”

ozone.jpg

Tracks:

  1. Malfunction
  2. Nano
  3. Affirmative
  4. Twilight
  5. Flashback
  6. Glitch
  7. Dreams
  8. Lifeforce
  9. Brainwave
  10. Future
  11. OK

About a year ago I bought a couple of electronica albums and as Amazon always does, it starts giving you recommendations of other material that you might like based on your purchases or rankings. Zero One came up. “Ozone” is the fourth album by the project, and was the last one I purchased. It is also the best.

For a while now I have had “Yellowknife” by Steve Zipp listed as the next book I was going to read. Part of this was due to waiting for it’s arrival. But now there is another reason that I kept putting it off, and now have ultimately set it aside for a good long while.

As I mentioned, I joined in on “The 2nd Canadian Book Challenge”. Part of this was due to Mr. Zipp himself. “Yellowknife” is his debut novel and was published by a very small press. It is very hard to find, more so not living in Canada. I contacted him asking for information in purchasing a copy and he gave me the option to join the challenge and he would send me a free...

UPDATED 8/25/08 9:15 PM

Today, Marcia and I “celebrate” our seventh anniversary. Though actually we really celebrated it yesterday by seeing a movie (”The Dark Knight” … nothing says wedding anniversary like Batman! … review coming eventually) and grabbing some take-out burgers from our favorite place down the street. Thanks to my Mother-In-Law for watching Nigel for us.

[UPDATE:]
So we got away for dinner after all tonight. Headed over to the Braveheart Inn. You might guess, and it would be correct, that it’s a Scottish pub. Great food. Great desserts. It was a really nice time. And thanks again to my Mother-In-Law for indulging us for...

This past weekend Marcia and I watched the movie version of “Persepolis”. I recently read and REVIEWED the book.

persepolis-movie.jpg

As with the book, the film follows Marjane Satrapi’s life from about the age of 10 (1978), living in Tehran, Iran, to her parents moving her to Vienna, Austria to get away from the war with Iraq, back to her return and marriage in Tehran at the age of 21.

Satrapi’s book, though non-fiction, would be best described as a graphic novel. The movie, as it should be, is animated...

This past weekend Marcia and I watched “Taxi Driver”, starring Robert De Niro, Jodi Foster, Cybil Shepard, Harvey Keitel, and Albert Brooks.

taxi_driver_ver1.jpg

The following plot description was found on IMDB, written by Tim Jones:

Vietnam vet Travis Bickle (De Niro) is 26, a loner in the mean streets of New York City, slipping slowly into isolation and violent misanthropy. In solving his insomnia by driving a yellow cab on the night shift, he grows increasingly disgusted by the low-lifes that hang out at night: “Someday a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets.” His...

UPDATED - SEE BELOW

Earlier this week I finished reading “The Gargoyle”, the debut novel by Andrew Davidson. This one counts in my total for “The 2nd Canadian Book Challenge”.

the-gargoyle.jpg

Here is a rundown on the plot, the description I read that got me hooked on the idea of reading it (from Amazon.Com, of course):

The unnamed narrator of “The Gargoyle” is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what...

Nigel loves slides. So a couple of times I have taken him to the elementary school by us. (It’s actually a whole campus that houses all three levels of primary school.) This last time was this past Friday. Marcia has been having a real devil of a time with her migraines, so it was a way to get Nigel out of the house. Even when I am watching him, he can be loud and running all over (as if you really didn’t know that already). This last time we went, there was a girl (about 8-10) and his brother (4-5) playing on the set that Nigel wanted to go on. He didn’t do much sliding until they left, but was still having a great time.
