“And the band Rush is here. Either that, or a drum factory exploded in my studio.”
In a couple of weeks, Marcia and I will be going to New York to be a part of the live studio audience for the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Tickets are free (and though we are on the list, they are not guaranteed). We both like the show, Marcia more then myself. And he has had some great guests. But on Wednesday night, one of the ultimate guests for me made an appearance. The band Rush.
Some of the questions were on the cheesy side, but it was still very funny. I especially got a good laugh at the question regarding their songs being so long, if near the end of writing a song they actually influence themselves because the beginning of the song was so much earlier in their career.
I was a little disappointed to see Alex say virtually nothing. I have found out over the years that all three of them have a wicked sense of humor, and I think Alex’s is most off-the-wall and usually the most on display.
You can watch the WHOLE EPISODE online. It is rather funny, since the big Rush fan in Colbert’s production team replaces the show’s theme song with “Limelight” by the band.
Marcia found out that country singer Toby Keith will be the guest when we go. It still should be an entertaining show.

I just sent a link to your uncle Steve with the Colbert Report video featuring Rush. I was saying that Geddy’s playing the Moog Little Phatty, just like the one I recently purchased on eBay!
Too bad about Toby Keith. I’m from Norman, Oklahoma and a OU alumni and Sooner fan and I can tell you right now he’s a jerk.
See you soon, David (the brewer from Lynchburg)

Your purchase will make Marcia jealous. And unfortunately we won’t be coming to Virginia this year. Just too expensive. But that might be a blessing to you. Marcia would then be camped out at your house wanted to play the Moog.
And for the record, she wasn’t happy with the sound that Geddy set up. She still likes the original.

The synths are actually pretty much the same, at least as far as oscillators are concerned. As Marcia well knows, the Moog is basically a tone generator; the actual “sound” is pretty radically altered/improved/refined by the effects it’s run through. Modern day chorus/reverbs, which are now digital, just don’t have the same punch the old analog pedals had. Gotta have an old Electro-Harmonix chorus for your Moog runs, Geddy!
