Marcia is quitting her job. And with good reason. Since she stepped into that church, they have given her nothing but trouble.
It seems that those on the council, running the church, are more interested in keeping their little clique together then actually worrying about what they are there for in the first place: worshiping God. Most of the council members are also in the choir, and seemed a bit peeved that Marcia was making them work. They said they wanted change, and when Marcia started doing things the way she has at all the other churches she has worked at, they started balking. (We are not talking about actually changing things that she can’t change, she knows the limits.) It seemed like every time she would play a service, many members of the council would come up to her and tell her that she was doing something wrong. She was even told by another member who’s husband works with the council that the council members were wondering if she had any talent at all. (For those of you that know Marcia, you would surely laugh at this.) She was even criticized for wearing shoes with heals on them. Council members said that they were “destroying” the foot pedals. Marcia never had one complaint about that at all the other churches she worked at, and the organ that this church has already is in need of replacement anyway.
Through this wife of this church member that works with council, she found out that they were perpetrating these issue to make her quit. The Pastor also appeared to be in on it, because she referred to Marcia’s finding out as “the leak” of information she wasn’t supposed to know. (What ever happened to “treat others as you would want them to treat you”?) Most recently this member was hassled about signing with the choir and it has been decided that Marcia was to blame for all of this. That was the last straw.
We both understand that sometimes “politics” get in the way at church. After all, there are many, many different personalities trying to work together. But never has she ever experienced anything as un-Christian as this before.

Church politics are the worst politics, maybe because one has higher expectations. As one who left his church after 17 years as a member, I do sympathize.

It occurred to me that I didn’t tell that story in my Ramblin’ blog; I didn’t really tell it here either, but…http://blogs.timesunion.com/rogergreen/?p=64

Thanks for sharing that. It is amazing what some churches do. Boggles the mind.

I think Marcia should see if she could give one more final performance and play something like Motley Crue’s “shout at the devil”!!!!!!

Marcia really likes “Sad But True” by Metallica and often said she would like to orchestrate a choir version of the song.
