Over a week ago Marcia and I watched “The Kite Runner”, a movie based on the BOOK by Khaled Hosseini. The movie stars Khalid Abdalla, Homayoun Ershadi, Shaun Toub, Atossa Leoni, Zekeria Ebrahimi, and Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada.

From Amazon.Com, here is the plot description:
Amir is a young Afghani from a well-to-do Kabul family; his best friend Hassan is the son of a family servant. Together the two boys form a bond of friendship that breaks tragically on one fateful day when Amir fails to save...

On Wednesday at lunch, I finished reading “Last Dragon”, the debut novel by J. M. McDermott.

I mentioned in a meme before that I have never received an “advanced reader copy” (or ARC’s for short) of a novel before. I have come across a few people on the internet that have enough clout that they do get them. Well, by luck, I am a member of LibraryThing.Com and recently members have been able to sign up for ARC’s of certain books. They are sent out to you directly from the publisher. Though it seems that it is AFTER the book is released. My thinking...

Wanted to pass along my wishes for a Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there! Especially my brothers, my brother-in-laws, my internet friends, and most especially to my father.

I will be spending time with Nigel, the reason I am a father. Mostly that will be in the morning while Marcia is playing at church.

And I am sure...

Hockey has hit a bit of a sad state. I am talking about it being on the general consciousness of the public. Was watching Jeopardy! a couple of nights ago. There was a Sports category. One of the questions needed the answer/question “What is Formula One?” The contestant had the question as a daily double and got it. Yet the $2000 question/answer in the category dealt with what league the Minnesota Wild play in. All three contestants had blank stares.
To more happy stuff, two Red Wings picked up more hardware at the NHL Awards Ceremony last night. Niklas Lidstrom won his sixth Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman, and Pavel Datsyuk won both the Selke Award for best defensive forward and the Lady Byng...

Six game winning streak. Just in time, too. I took on the first place team this past week (Los Angeles Highwaymen). Turned into a 925-830 victory. Even with my team grabbing more points these last few weeks, I still expected to lose. Is it just me or is victory sweeter when you have low expectations?
This coming weekend will be another important match. I will be taking on the Richmond Dragons, who currently are one place higher then my Philly Freedom. Here is the ladder:

I used to watch Formula One all the time. Made a point of getting up early on Sunday to watch the races. Over the years I have lost touch with the sport, but still keep my eye on it. Especially now that a Polish driver was slowly making waves. (My heritage is Polish so I am always rootin’ for ‘em.) That being Robert Kubica (pronounced koo-bit-zah) who drives for Sauber-BMW. Well this past Sunday, after two of the big name drivers were knocked out in a pit lane accident, Kubica pounced on the opportunity and WON the race.

On Sunday afternoon Marcia and I went to the theater (amazing, I know) and saw the new Indiana Jones movie starring (obviously) Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Karen Allen, Ray Winstone, John Hurt, and Cate Blanchett.

Let me first say that I am not a big fan of the Indiana Jones movies. That’s not to say that I hate them. I can take ‘em or leave ‘em. Marcia, however, is a HUGE Indy fan. So that is why we went.
This time around, Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones, Jr. gets caught up with the Soviets in 1957 trying to uncover the secret behind a crystal skull. Winstone plays Mac, a former...

And it wasn’t even a contest this year. The Mighty Roger Federer looked bad. His very strong backhand looked useless. Though credit to Nadal, he was playing flawless and it didn’t look like he was going to be beat, even if Roger was on top of his game. So it was quick work with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 match. I didn’t get to see the whole match due to chasing Nigel around. But you didn’t need to watch much to know which was it was going.

Hopefully if the two meet again in the Wimbledon final like last year, it will be more competitive.

I certainly hope that those backing Clinton will listen to her words HERE, even after a hard fought campaign against each other.

This past Sunday I finally finished reading “A Soldier of the Great War” by Mark Helprin.

For a synopsis, I am using Barbara Hoffert’s review from 1991 that appeared in Library Journal:
In summer 1964, a distinguished-looking gentleman in his seventies dismounts on principle from a streetcar that was to carry him from Rome to a distant village, instead accompanying on foot a boy denied a fare. As they walk, he tells the boy the story of his life. A young aesthete from a privileged Roman family, Alesandro Giuliani found his charmed...
