As I expected, the Pens played with more passion and fire last night. They made a real statement. They can compete with the Wings. But for how long. Though the Pens were very impressive in stepping up their game from being totally dominated in Game 2, and looking feeble in Game 1 as well, they still didn’t totally turn the tables.

Sidney Crosby scores his second of the game to put the Pens up 2-0 in the second period.
The Wings still played very strong. The Pens took away a lot of their possession of the puck with that of their own, and they were moving faster in the neutral zone to get around the Wings’ stiff defense. However, it just evened out the sides. The Wings kept coming back, and were pushing the Pens hard late in the third, looking for the tying goal.

The Pens celebrate getting back into the series.
I am still not convinced that the Pens will beat the Wings. Those first two games could turn out to be huge. Had the Pens played this way from the start, then my opinion would be different. But they put themselves in a hole that allowed only one more mishap in five games. They took one step closer last night, but it’s still a big hill to climb.
I hope though that the rest of the games are as competative as last nights.

I agree the Pens looked great last night, but need another home win to change my mind on how this cup race will end. Going down two games to start was not part of the plan………

The Blackhawks are expected to play the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field in January in the NHL’s Winter Classic, Comcast SportsNet reported Wednesday night, with an official announcement perhaps coming this week.
Game would take place on 1/1/09!

I heard the same report. Hope that happens. If I remember correctly, the Wings and Hawks have played more games (including playoffs) against each other then any other two NHL teams. A great way to continue the rivalry at the Winter Classic.
