One of my son’s namesakes, Nigel Mansell, was recently feature by ESPN as one of the Top 25 Racers of all time. Mansell falls in at number 24. It was nice to see another Formula One star along with him in the first five of the series (Niki Lauda). I remember Mansell as being rather brash, but backing it up on the track. He never let down. It was great watching him compete, and very hard, against his teammate Nelson Piquet (another fave of mine) when both were driving for Williams in the mid 80’s.

My brother Todd, who’s birthday is today, came up with a great quote regarding one of the lesser beers, though most popular, out on the market, that being Miller Lite. “The only time I need a Miller Lite is when I need something to wash my feet with.”

A few weeks back, just before Mothers’ Day, when I went to the Phillies GAME, Brian, Will, and I walked by a vendor selling programs as well as special DVD’s honoring Phillies’ great Richie Ashburn. Just as we passed, he could be heard bellowing, “Nothing says Mothers’ Day like a Richie Ashburn DVD!” Maybe for some moms that would work. If there was a such thing, I could probably get away with buying a Steve Yzerman DVD for my Mom as a Mothers’ Day gift.

Saw something rather odd a few days ago. A very old car passed me going the other way while driving home one from work. The car was from the 1920’s. The guy driving it was dressed much like we dress today, even with a ball cap. But the woman in the passenger’s seat was dressed like she stepped out of a Civil War re-enactment. To top it off, she was on a cell phone.

Nigel’s speech therapy continues to go well, though the therapist noticed that Nigel is showing a small sign of a neurological disorder. There are many degrees of it, and there are also signs in what he is saying and doing that he doesn’t have this disorder. Regardless, she is going to look into more information for us. It has us a little concerned but not much. If anything she said he might have a hard time pronouncing the letter “R”, as it stands now.
Meanwhile though, Nigel is improving on other fronts. Especially when I tickle him. He has gotten into the habit of saying, through laughing, “Dad!” in that whining/sighing type way kids would. It’s very cute. He is also saying letters. It first started with the “Word World” videos, then “The Alphabet Train”, now even when watching “Wheel of Fortune”.

If you ever come across a Steve Yzerman DVD, that would definitely be a good thing!
