Last Day of Work
So today is my last day of work. Well, at least at my current employer. I will miss some of it. The fellow employees were really great. Very helpful when they needed to be. Very friendly when they needed to be. And it was really cool working for my supervisor, seeing that he has the same taste in beer as I do, and is a hockey fan (he’s Canadian, so it goes with the territory).
However, I am looking forward to going back to my new/old employer. I really enjoyed working with quite a few people there, and even went out to dinner from time to time with two of them (though on separate occasions). And I really am looking forward to being busy at work again, and with things that are really...

Over the course of many days (it’s a long movie and we have “Nigel” issues) Marcia and I watched the movie “Heat”, starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Val Kilmer.

Here is the plot synopsis, thanks to Michael Silva and IMDB:
Neil McCauley (De Niro) is a thief … an expert thief … one of the best. His philosophy in life - become attached to nothing in life that you can’t walk away from in 30 seconds if you spot the “heat” around the corner. His crew of criminals (Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, and Danny Trejo) is a high-tech outfit pulling off professional...

On Sunday afternoon, Marcia and I watched the movie “Donnie Darko”, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and co-starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Holmes Osborne, Mary McDonnell, Daveigh Chase, James Duval, Patrick Swayze, Beth Grant, Jena Malone, David Moreland, Noah Wyle, Drew Barrymore, Patience Cleveland, Katharine Ross, and a brief part by Seth Rogen. I listed everyone that is rather well known, mostly because we were surprised to see all of these actors and actresses.

The movie is one of the strangest and most unique movies I have seen in a long time. It is hard to classify the movie into one genre (take note, David)....

A couple of weeks ago I finally got to the Six Pack Shop. It’s a beer store that sells all there beer in six packs, or even single bottles. And they have an amazing selection. For those of you living in Pennsylvania, you know how rare and wonderful that is, in a state that mostly only allows beer sales by the case.
One nice thing about this place is that they have about five selves of beers that you can mix and match a six pack for a special price, no matter what the cost per bottle is. So I tried five new ones and had one that I haven’t had in a couple of years (Bethlehem Brew Works’ Rude Elf Reserve).
Erie Brewing Company’s Railbender Ale
A very malty ale. Very surprising....

I stumbled onto this band because of the drummer, Barrett Martin. Martin was the drummer for the Screaming Trees during their heyday in the early 90’s (Seattle grunge scene), and then more importantly to me, was part of the “super group” Mad Season. (The...

On Wednesday afternoon I finished reading “The Good Fairies of New York” by Martin Millar.

From Publishers Weekly via Amazon.Com, here is the description of the story:
… fiercely funny (and often inebriated) Scottish fairies, a poignant love story as well as insights into the gravity of Crohn’s disease, cultural conflicts and the plight of the homeless in this fey urban fantasy. Due to the machinations of the obnoxious Tala, Cornwall’s fairy king, only a few humans can see the 18-inch-tall fairies who alight in Manhattan: Magenta, a homeless...

Roger POSTED an answer to a question put to him by another blogroll friend.
Who were the people you had a crush on when you were 18 or younger, people who were at least semi-famous; i.e., not your teacher or your best friend’s parent?
Here are mine:
You will see a trend rather quickly with the first three.
First, was Christie Brinkley. The following picture is what did it.

Next was Paulina Porizkova.

Marcia and I have a subscription to Entertainment Weekly magazine. There is a small section devoted to stuff that they have on their web site EW.Com. The latest edition that showed up late last week told of their list of the Top 10 Movie Baseball Players. Being a fan of those types of movies, I had to post the list.
- Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) in “Major League” (1989)
- George “Buck” Weaver (John Cusack) in “Eight Men Out” (1988)
- Jackie Robinson (himself) in “The Jackie Robinson Story” (1950)
- Jimmy Piersall (Anthony Perkins) in “Fear Strikes Out’ (1957)
- Amanda Whurlitzer (Tatum O’Neal)...

I totally forgot about last week. Though it was easy to forget. My team lost.
This week though was a different story. I changed my line up a bit, mostly due to having two guys coming back (one from injury, one from suspension). It helped. A 938-786 victory over the Casey Power. My team had the second highest point total of the week, only one point behind Minnesota. Big point totals help, as the percentage in the column before the last tells us. It decides tie-breakers. And I could have had more. I gave Daniel Cross of the Western Bulldogs the captain mark, doubling his points, but Chad Cornes of the Port Adelaide Power outscored him. Regardless, I got my percentage over 100 which is a good thing. Now if I can just win some...

I am switching job again. I know what you are thinking.
“Are you mad?”
“Isn’t this the fourth time in under two years?”
“Didn’t you find a very good permanent job this last time?”
Yes would be the answer to the last two questions. Oh, let’s be honest here. It’s probably the answer to the first as well.
I am going back to a former employer that has changed much of what I didn’t like about them. In this process of finding another job, I actually had two offers to consider. And this all happened very fast.
There are a few reasons I am leaving my current employer, but mostly due to lack of a long-term future. I hired into Lehigh Cement...
