Late last week Marcia and I watched “No Country for Old Men” starring Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones, Kelly MacDonald, and Woody Harrelson.

Thanks to Amazon.Com, here is a rundown on the plot:
In this modern-day Western, Llewelyn Moss (Brolin) is a Vietnam vet who could use a break. One morning while hunting antelope, he spies several trucks surrounded by dead bodies (both human and canine). In examining the site, he finds a case filled with $2 million. Moss takes it with him, tells his wife, Carla Jean (MacDonald), he’s going away for awhile, and...

I haven’t been able to try any new brews lately. Part of that is trying to save money. I bought two cases of beer in December. I usually only allow myself one case a month. However, I made these two stretch. And they are still being stretched. Come the first of April I will be down to the last bottle of those two cases. That leads to the second problem in not trying anything new lately: not having anywhere close that sells a wide selection by anything other then a case. There is one place that I know of, but it’s a good 15 to 20 minutes away, and it’s always out of the way. Hopefully I will get back there. But until then I am tethered by what the local seller has in cases, and I only stick with what I know I like...

Over the course of a couple of days, Marcia and I watched “Dan in Real Life” starring Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche, and Dane Cook.

Here’s a quick rundown on the plot thanks to Amazon.Com:
Dan Burns (Carell) is a newspaper columnist who writes about family issues and relationships. As a widower with three growing girls to raise, however, the difference between Dan’s printed wisdom and his struggles with fatherhood and loneliness is often vast. He’s put to a severe test when he packs up the kids for a cabin holiday with his parents and siblings, then falls for the exotic,...

It appears that Marcia and I are not going to be moving after all. We have been running the numbers and figured out that it is still going to be too tough. It is better to stick around and pay off more of the debt. Given Marcia’s new job, we have been saving money at an alarming rate, banking her pay checks. We figured if we could get through the month without that money, we could afford to move out. But there were a few things we didn’t think of, and one aspect of our debt recovery didn’t go as planned. Therefore, we are going to hit it ourselves. Such is life when you get yourself into trouble.

I hate Comcast. Better yet, I loathe Comcast. I had the fortunate circumstances to live in the Dayton, Ohio area where I had a choice between them and TimeWarner. I proudly chose TW. And while here living with my Mother-In-Law, we had a smaller company called Service Electric. SE charges $55 less a month then Comcast for the identical services that I have had in two different cities in Pennsylvania.
So now, with Marcia and I moving to another place, I have been looking into what our options are. Unfortunately, Comcast is the only cable game in town. Again. (I looked into Verizon FiOS, and unfortunately it’s not available.) However, Direct TV is available in our area. It seems that even if I...

It’s that time of year again! The World Aussie Football Association kicked off it’s fourth season this past weekend.
For those that need a refresher, my team is the Philadelphia Freedom. We had an awful start to our first season, but managed to pull things together. The second season we just missed the playoffs. Our third season (last year), we finished with the best record in the league, only to lose two straight in the playoffs and get knocked out. This year, I am just hoping to make the playoffs again.
And my team didn’t start as strong as I would have liked. They lost to the Southern Warriors 880-830. I had a pretty good showing from all my players, except for newcomer Tim Notting of the Brisbane...

This past Friday I read “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick.

I have had interest in this book now for a while, though I never had put it on my Amazon wish list. I remember reading a brief description that didn’t go deep into the story, or the nature of the book, but it interested me. But it was in a recent trip to David and Catherine’s that it caught my attention. I saw it sitting on their shelves. I was shocked at the size of the novel, knowing it was more geared to a young adult audience. I then said to David that I had my eye it for a while, but hadn’t gotten a copy yet....

Nigel’s Second Haircut
Last Saturday morning we took Nigel for his second haircut. It went really well. He was very well behaved. He was sitting on a flying elephant and occasionally wanted to stand up on the foot pegs, but he didn’t move around and was smiling and talkative the whole time. I was a bit worried, because he has been in terrible-two mode, big time. But he made Mommy and Daddy very proud of the way he behaved.
Now someday in the VERY NEAR future, we will be taking him for pictures.
Home Hunting
Marcia and I started our new home hunting this week. I figured it would be good to start now, considering it might take some time to find anything we like. ...
