Recently I finished reading “Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls” by Matt Ruff. I had come across it at Amazon.Com and it looked interesting. Like with other books, I eventually cleaned it out of my wish list only to realize weeks/months later that I wanted to still get it. When I came back to it, it was listed as a “bargain book”, only costing $6.99 for the hardcover edition. Couldn’t let that one pass me by. It then took me almost two years before actually reading it.

Wanted to pass along Happy Birthday wishes to my Dad.

Also, my nephew Colin (David and Catherine’s son) turns one year old today.

This is the second of the two memes that Roger completed recently that I did as well. This one is missing even more numbers. Again, not sure where they went or what they were asking.

1. Have you ever had mono?
Yes. I think it was sometime in 1991.

2. The last place you were (besides now)?
The car, driving to work.

3. The last gift you received?
Technically, it was the Intimidator hat from David and Catherine.

4. How many times a day do you drop your mobile phone?
I have only dropped it twice in the two years I have owned it.

5....

This is one of two memes that Roger completed recently. (He actually did three, but I only did two of them.) I have done these mostly to kill time during the day.

1. How old will you turn in 2008?
38.

2. Do you think you’ll be married by then?
I hope I will still be married then.

3. What do you look forward to most in the next 3 months?
Moving and getting our budget stable.

4. Do you like to say “I told you so?”
No.

5. Who was the last person to call you?
My wife, Marcia.

6. Do you prefer call or text?
I don’t have a...

On Saturday afternoon, Marcia and I watched “Dog Day Afternoon” starring Al Pacino, John Cazale, Charles Durning, and James Broderick.

You can get an idea from the movie poster above what the movie is about. But thanks to someone at IMDB, here is a better write-up:

Based upon a real-life story that happened in the early seventies in which the Chase Manhattan Bank in Flatbush, Brooklyn, was held siege by a gay bank robber determined to steal enough money for his male lover to undergo a sex change operation. On a hot summer afternoon, the First Savings Bank of Brooklyn is held up...

Here’s another one that I forgot to post about. One afternoon while visiting my family during the Christmas holiday, I (sort of ) watched “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” with my parents. For those that don’t know, it stars Adam Sandler and Kevin James.

chuck-and-larry.jpg

The movie is about fellow firefighters Chuck and Larry, who are also very good friends away from the job. Chuck is single and a womanizer, and Larry is a widower with two children. After an accident on the job (from a dare between the two) hospitalizes both of them, Larry tries to name his two children beneficiaries to his pension,...

Wow! Forgot all about this one. Marcia, Nigel, and I watched “Shrek the Third”, oh I don’t know, sometime after returning to PA after our Christmas trip to Michigan.

shrek-the-third-poster.jpg

The storyline this time around is that Fiona’s father is dying, and wants to hand over his throne to Shrek. Obviously being an ogre’s ogre, Shrek wants nothing to do with this. So he promptly starts the search for another heir.

As with the previous two movies, Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, and Eddie Murphy supply the voices of the four main characters. There are others that play...

The Super Bowl commercials have been getting so much hype over the years, only to let us down. This year was no different. However, there were a couple that got my attention. First, the best of the bunch. It’s a add for Doritoes and the use of a mousetrap.

This past Friday I finished reading “God’s Demon”, the debut novel by famed artist Wayne Barlowe.

Here is the description on Amazon’s web site about the book:

Lucifer’s War, which damned legions of angels to Hell, is an ancient and bitter memory shrouded in the smoke and ash of the Inferno. The Fallen, those banished demons who escaped the full wrath of Heaven, have established a limitless and oppressive kingdom within the fiery confines of Hell. Lucifer has not been seen since the Fall and the mantle of rulership has been passed to the horrific Prince Beelzebub, the Lord...

Bozzio Levin Stevens - “Black Light Syndrome”

black-light-syndrome-cover.jpg

Tracks:

  1. The Sun Road
  2. Dark Corners
  3. Duende
  4. Black Light Syndrome
  5. Falling in Circles
  6. Book of Hours
  7. Chaos/Control

I had heard that these three were doing an album, and was excited about two-thirds of it. At the time I was already a fan of Bozzio and Levin. I was disappointed with the choice of Stevens as the guitarist. The idea of this album was to write and record it in less than a week. It was a way for Bozzio to make some extra money during a slow time in his career, and...
