Hard not to know who Sheryl Crow is. Though I have my brother Todd to thank me for his introduction to her music. He had a copy of her first album that I borrowed a couple of times. Some of it I really liked well enough to end up buying her second album after hearing...

I recently finished reading “Lud-in-the-Mist” by Hope Mirrlees as part of the 8th Edition of the Bookworms Carnival hosted by Renay at “The Book Ninja”.

I have been reading some others’ descriptions to post, and have settled on the review from Elisabeth Carey found on Amazon.Com (with a few alterations for clarity and to hide some things). It gives a good, broad description, without giving away anything:
Dorimare is bordered by Fairyland, although these days it does its very best to ignore that fact. Two or three centuries...

I forgot to mention in the “What a Day” post that Nigel had an appointment to get his ears cleaned after our time at the dealer. The doctor and nurse both said that neither ear was that bad and were surprised that the woman giving the hearing test the day before was so adamant about them being bad. The doctor also, after talking to us about what he was saying, said that sure, he’s behind on his speech, but really doesn’t think he is that far behind. She says that if we want to be pro-active and have the speech evaluation, then fine, but he’s not bad.
The bad thing however is the availability of appointments with the hearing test facility. Marcia’s ears get rather bad, and she needs to get them...

Yesterday was quite a day for us (meaning, Marcia, Nigel, and myself). Though the events actually started on Monday morning.
On my way to work, and not very far into that commute, the “check engine” light came on in the Jeep Cherokee. I had been dreading a day like this now for a while, but also was expecting it. Given that I was attending a doctor’s appointment with Marcia on Tuesday, I set up an appointment to take the car into a dealer and have it diagnosed. So then yesterday comes around.
After dropping off the car, we headed to Marcia’s appointment. This was very important, because over the course of the last six to eight months, Marcia has been dealing with doctors telling her that they know...

To start off Nigel’s speech evaluation, the doctors wanted him to take a hearing test. That was yesterday afternoon. It started very poorly and ended quickly. However, it appears that it’s an issue of Nigel needing his ears cleaned and/or drained. He has a lot of wax build up, and due to the first test result that they are congested or plugged. Given that Nigel is saying words, and is responding to sound at home, it seems obvious that it’s not any major hearing problems. But they won’t go any further in testing until he has his ears cleaned, which will be later this afternoon. Unfortunately though it could take a while to get back to testing. Marcia made the appointment for yesterday well over a month ago....

On Super Bowl Sunday, Marcia will be starting a new job. She will be the organist and choir director for St. Paul’s Lutheran (sound familiar?). This job is exactly like she had before, just a different town. She is very excited about it.
This will help her, I believe, in many ways. Obviously financially it will benefit us. We are in a position to be able to move and afford rent in April. Cleaning up our debt has taken some work, and some of it is still present, but we have done quite a bit to get ourselves into a better position. This will help greatly, especially areas that have been ignored the last few years, like saving for retirement, or just putting more into Nigel’s college fund then we have. But I think...

I read a very good ARTICLE by Mark Schlabach this past Wednesday on ESPN’s web site.
It basically says that given the circumstances of this year’s college football season, LSU was very deserving in being the consensus National Champion. Given that we are dealing with the BCS system (which I feel is a joke), I would have to agree.
However, he points out that change is needed. And a few leaders of major conferences have mentioned new systems that could be used. (They plan on sitting down and talking about it - ABOUT TIME!) Whether it’s the so-called “plus-one” system, where the top four teams...

On Monday night, Marcia and I watched “Balls of Fury”, starring Dan Fogler, George Lopez, James Hong, Maggie Q, and Christopher Walken.

Here is a rundown, thanks to IMDB:
Down-and-out former professional Ping-Pong phenom Randy Daytona (Fogler) is sucked into this maelstrom when FBI Agent Rodriguez (Lopez) recruits him for a secret mission. Randy is determined to bounce back and recapture his former glory, and to smoke out his father’s (Robert Patrick) killer - one of the FBI’s Most Wanted, arch-fiend Feng (Walken). But, after two decades out of the game, Randy can’t...

This past weekend, Marcia and I experienced the movie version of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, directed by Tim Burton, and starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

Now, I didn’t know the actual story going in. Neither did Marcia. However, we knew the basis of the story. Benjamin Barker, a young London barber, is married to the beautiful Lucy, and they have an infant daughter Joanna. Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) decides that he must have Lucy for himself, so sends off Benjamin on a false charge. Fifteen years later, Benjamin returns, renaming himself as Sweeney Todd. He...
