While Marcia and I were in Michigan visiting my family, we watched “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” with them. Obviously it starred Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean.

All this movie needs is a quick description, which I found at IMDB.Com.

Mr. Bean wins a trip to Cannes where he unwittingly separates a young boy from his father and must help the two come back together. On the way he discovers France, bicycling, and true love, among other things.

Those familiar with the show should have a good idea of what ensues. As always, Mr. Bean seems to be a step (or three) behind normalcy. And though the show does have it’s good points, at times it becomes redundant. However, the movie turned out to be quite entertaining. The ending was a bit out there, given it’s interception with a movie debut at the Cannes festival, but still entertaining nonetheless. I also think that the movie humanized the character more then the shows ever did.

Marcia is a big fan of Atkinson’s work, as am I, but Mr. Bean is not his best stuff. (Do yourself a favor and rent the second, third, and fourth seasons of “Blackadder” - bonus is to see Hugh Laurie and his comedic roots.) But the movie certainly proved that the character and concept still have something to offer.
