Nigel had his speech evaluation yesterday morning. It was a nice surprise to get a phone call on Wednesday afternoon saying they had an opening for him on Thursday. Marcia mentioned that we were told to get a full hearing test first, before scheduling the speech evaluation. But Marcia was told they didn’t care about the hearing test as of yet, so if we wanted, we could bring him in.
Much to our relief, he is doing better then we thought. Obviously his word count is well behind that of a 26 month old. But his knowledge of words, actions towards words, and his babbling, which they said shows signs of trying to say short sentences, were all in line with his age. Even the dropping of endings in words (like when he says “ca-”...
So, if you haven’t heard, many of us in the US may have a “tax rebate” coming this summer. And if you hadn’t heard, it’s purpose is to put more money in the pockets of middle-class Americans, giving them the opportunity to buy things they want, therefore stimulating a sagging economy (trying to avoid a recession). I visit a sports forum and there is an off-topic section. One member posted a thread titled “Economic Stimulation or Wishful Thinking?” He asked what people would do with such a rebate, and most of us said that it would go to paying off bills (or helping lower the balances), put it into IRA’s or kids’ college funds, or just put it into savings accounts. So is it worth while...
The two and a half (plus) year reign is over. For the first time since the 2005 Australian Open, a name other then Federer or Nadal will go on a mens’ Grand Slam trophy. Novak Djokovic won the Aussie Open this past weekend (his first Grand Slam in his second try). He is slowly proving to be a true contender. As much as I love Federer, I am glad that someone else can hang with him and Nadal. It will make this tennis season very interesting. (Though I still don’t think anyone can beat Federer at Wimbledon.)
And Maria Sharapova came back from injuries the last couple of years to prove she is still a true threat. She won her third Grand Slam this past weekend. She is now only short a French Open title to complete a...
Beer Can Appreciation Day
Thanks to Marcia’s Uncle Joe for passing this along. He sent me an ECARD regarding the “holiday.” You can find out a little more about it HERE.
Now, I am not normally one to drink beer from a can. It’s just not as good. Though my Uncle Steve pointed out that Yuengling’s lager actually tastes as good, if not better, from a can then a bottle. I have tried it from a can recently, but couldn’t make a hard and fast conclusion. ...
Yes, it has been over ten years since Vladimir Konstantinov laced them up for the Red Wings. But it’s clips like this that remind us how much we still miss him.
I recently finished reading “Yume No Hon: The Book of Dreams” by Catherynne M. Valente. I have wavered back and forth for a few years about my interest in reading it. I finally took the plunge.
I am going to clip parts of both descriptions listed on Amazon.Com for this book. (I am really getting anal about this, but I don’t have faith in myself coming up with good descriptions.) These descriptions I am using are from Publishers Weekly and Regina Schroeder’s review at Booklist:
