A-Rod Contract Offer Nigel - Milk and Photos

Friday Night
Marcia and I decided to order from the local pizzeria. Though we didn’t have pizza. But it was a nice evening, watching TV with Nigel, and just spending time together.

Saturday
I got up early to get my haircut. Our plan was to go out and do some Christmas shopping, so Nigel and Marcia were up before I left for the barber shop. When I had gotten home, Marcia was already showered and Nigel was sitting on the couch watching Playhouse Disney. After getting him bathed, and taking my shower, we headed out. One of our goals was to get Nigel a nice pair of black shoes that he could wear when dressed up, especially since we will be taking him to get his pictures taken for his birthday, and then at Christmas.

Since the shoe store was in a certain direction, we decided to go to a few places in the area, with our first stop being by Catherine and David’s. David birthday was on Tuesday, but they were heading out to celebrate later that evening at Victory. Because we really couldn’t find someone to baby-sit Nigel, and wanted to save money with his upcoming birthday party later this month, Marcia and I were not going to attend. It was the first of “David’s Birthday Bash at Victory” that I have missed. But more on that later. We then headed to Kohl’s, since they were having a big sale that lasted until 1:00 in the afternoon. While there, we took care of three more people on the Christmas gift list. We now have 70% of our shopping done! And we got some good deals there in the process.

After Kohl’s, we went to the shoe store for Nigel. Like the first time we went there, they wanted to measure his foot. The preferred method is a scanner that is embedded into what looks like an old train engine that the children stand on. But unlike last time, Nigel wanted nothing to do with it. When we took off his socks and tried to get him stand on it, he started crying. We then tried one of those old metal tools that you always see at shoe stores, but he didn’t want anything to do with that either. He is either developing my hatred of being barefooted, or both things were just too cold for his feet. Regardless of the issues in measuring his feet, we found some nice shoes that were less expensive then we were prepared to spend. And Nigel liked them, too. When we got home, he found the box and pulled them out, urging me to put them on him.

After the shoe store, I talked Marcia into going to Atlantic Books, which has a huge amount of discounted books. You can get hardcovers for under $7. They also have a big selection of new releases. I got two books that I had been wanting, even having one on my wish list at BookMooch. We also picked up a couple of books for Nigel, one for his cousin Ryan, and Marcia got Stephen Colbert’s book, “I Am America (And So Can You)!” for 40% off the regular price.

Nigel fell asleep on the way home, so we put him in his crib right away. He fussed a little, but went back to sleep pretty quickly. But given that we hadn’t eaten much of a lunch, we started dinner early. Marcia had bought some sausage, some linguini noodles, and tomato sauce. So with that, and the case of Victory’s Moonglow Weizenbock that I had bought on Friday afternoon, though we missed David’s birthday celebration, I pretty much had what I would have for dinner and beverages. During the preparing of dinner, and eating, I got to watch Michigan State almost hand Michigan another loss. For those that didn’t see, the Spartans came back from down 14-3 at halftime to take a 24-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately they couldn’t hold the lead and lost 28-24. At least it was an exciting game, even if it is the sixth time in a row now that they have lost to the Wolverines.

Sunday
Marcia was subbing at the church that she got her first job at again. It was the second of two weeks in a row. We showed up much earlier then we needed to, though we still had turned out clocks back. Once we got in, Nigel headed right towards the nursery. It was funny to see that he remembered. There was a particular toy that he really enjoyed playing with last week, and quickly ran for it. It was one of those for cars and has multi-levels and ramps for the cars to go down. Though before service started he got mesmerized by a toy microwave. After communion, the Pastor asked for the kids to come up and receive a blessing, and they brought the kids out from the nursery. Nigel was so well behaved, and either didn’t notice Marcia and I or didn’t care and was just enjoying what was happening. When I went back to get him, he was still playing, but seemed a bit upset when I said it was time to go. However, he helped me put away some blocks that he was playing with, and gladly went running when I said we needed to find Mommy.

We did a little grocery shopping after church. Nigel now has to have us use a shopping cart that looks like a kids toy car. It has enough room for two children, and has two steering wheels. We decided to try it out one day, and now gets cranky if he can’t sit in one.

Just before 1:00, everyone started heading over. We were doing a lunch celebration for Paula’s birthday. My Mother-In-Law made spaghetti and meatballs, and the meatballs were excellent. It was a quick affair, because by 4:00 everyone had left. But it was a nice way to spend the afternoon. After Nigel woke from his nap, we were watching the Colts-Patriots game, especially since Marcia and my Mother-In-Law have sworn off the Eagles and become Patriots fans. Eventually we needed to give into Nigel though. He woke up really cranky. So it was onto his DVD’s. Even watching “Little Einsteins” episodes and “Air Buddies” for the umpteenth time, it turned out to be a nice evening. The hour difference though led to a lot of sleepy looks by 8:00.

With the nice autumn weather, it turned out to be a very nice weekend, even though we didn’t do anything too extraordinarily special.
