Tigers’ New Shortstop
The Tigers had decided that Carlos Guillen wasn’t the best fielding shortstop that they could have. Even during the season, they experimented with him playing first base. After all, they didn’t want to lose his bat, but the errors at short. Apparently Guillen has agreed with the move on a full-time basis next year. So when the announcement came that Alex Rodriguez was opting out of his contract with the Yankees, I wondered if the Tigers would be crazy enough to try and sign him. They answered quickly the next day by announcing they had traded two prospects to the Braves for Edgar Renteria. I am sure many will feel the same way, this is a great move. Renteria is a very good...

Red Sox Win World Series Pennant
Hope all those Red Sox fans are satisfied now. They have not only seen their team break their 86 year “curse”, but now have seen their team win two pennants in four years. Like a writer in the Morning Call said (that the Lehigh Valley’s newspaper), they have lost the “lovable” tag when they were lovable losers.
It is also a testament to manager Terry Francona. When the Sox hired Francona, I thought they had made a bad move. Grady Little had done well with the team, and Francona’s track record didn’t dictate that he could lead them to a World Series, let alone win it twice in four years. But like other naysayers, I was wrong....

Brand X - “Unorthodox Behaviour”

- Nuclear Burn
- Euthanasia Waltz
- Born Ugly
- Smacks of Euphoric Hysteria
- Unorthodox Behaviour
- Running On Three
- Touch Wood
I had heard for a long time that Phil Collins had been in another band that played jazz fusion, called Brand X, for years. Many, many times I had looked at their LP’s and CD’s, but never took the dive. Part of me was worried that I would hate them. Finally, earlier this year, I broke down and bought this album. Though mostly it was due to hearing some of bassist Percy Jones’...

Here is a bunch of pictures from a couple of weeks ago of Nigel running around with his riding toy. Or should I say pushing toy?
Sorry Jenn
My thoughts about Clive Barker will have to wait. I started reading “Weaveworld” a couple of days ago, and just can’t get into it right now. It’s a long book and there is a lot of stuff in the beginning that is all introduction to characters. I have only gotten through the first 44 pages, and it has taken me quite a while, and I just don’t have the patience right now to continue reading. I think this will have to wait a few months. And since “Imajica” is even longer, there is no way I want to tackle that one right now. So I am switching to another book. Still trying to decide which one. I have started one, but until I am satisfied I will continue, I am not...

Yesterday evening, I finished reading “Outside the Dog Museum” by Jonathan Carroll.

Here is a synopsis from Publishers Weekly via Amazon.Com:
Here his narrator is a curmudgeonly genius, the aphorizing architect Harry Radcliffe, who, with the aid of a maverick therapist, has recently recovered from a mental collapse and is ready to reexamine his constructs of reality. He’s also rebounding from an amicable divorce and conducts affairs with two fabulous females. Various developments - including an earthquake from which Radcliffe’s party is miraculously...

The BookMooch Wish List Dilemma
There have been complaints about how BookMooch’s wish list emails worked now for a bit. You can set up a wish list of book that you want, and when they become available, the system would email to let you know. However, it would email everyone that had it on their wish list as well. It was a “first come first serve” basis, which is very fair. However, if you didn’t have constant access to your email, you had no chance at those popular books.
They brought in a new system a couple of weeks ago that picks one person at random and gives them a four hour head start on everyone now. Of course, others are complaining about...

Anglagard - “Hybris”

Tracks:
- Jordrok (Earthsmoke)
- Vandringar I Vilsenhet (Wanderings in Confusion)
- Ifran Klarhet Till Klarhet (From Strength to Strength)
- Kung Bore (King Winter)
- Ganglat Fran Knapptibble (Marching Tune From Knapptibble)
Thanks to the boys and girls at ProgessiveEars.Com, I was introduced to Anglagard. Though at first it was all talk and hype. Their limited catalog wasn’t in print until about five years ago.

Yesterday afternoon, Marcia and I watched “1408″, starring John Cusak, and playing a small role was Samuel L. Jackson. This movie is based on a short story of the same name, written by Stephen King.

I couldn’t find anything on the internet that satisfied me about the description of the movie. So here is my own rendition.
Author Mike Enslin (Cusack) is becoming a popular author of the supernatural, writing books about haunted hotels and lighthouses. He is very skeptical of the existence of the supernatural, and even tells fans of his books that he has yet to experience any ghosts. (It seems unclear whether...

So here are the answers to another round of “Ask Scooter Anything”. There were only two participants this time around, but there were lots of questions. Like before with these, nothing here is meant to offend anyone. If it does, my apologies.
And surprisingly, there were no opinions about sports teams/events/players this time around. (Though I still think Gary Bettman is a … well, go see Roger’s question about swearing, and you may guess how I would finish that.)
