Yesterday my sister-in-law Paula held the birthday party for her son Ryan and daughter Emily. Their birthdays are four days apart (or actually, two years and four days apart). It turned out to be a beautiful day to have a party. You could go outside on my Mother-In-Law new deck without sweating or needing a sweater. The temps were perfect (for me at least). It was also great to see many of our Pizza Night gang that we haven’t seen much of or at all in the last six month, including John and Kathleen, and Andy and Yvonne. We actually have a few Pizza Nights planned for the months leading up to Christmas, so we will be seeing more of them.

Nigel had a good time. David’s son Lyric played ball with him on the deck for...

So I mentioned earlier this week that many of the NHL teams are changing the look of their uniforms this year. This actually came a year later then expected, when Reebok came on as the exclusive manufacturer for the league. Some of us in the world of hockey (and uniform/logo) fandom thought we were going to see this last year. However, it was planned that the overhaul would come with the new “uniform system” would be introduced, which is this season. So, most of the teams have changed something about their uniforms this year, even if just a couple of minor tweaks to the sweaters (jersey). Some of the sweaters haven’t been released yet, but I am going to start now since there are 30 teams to go through.

One note...

This afternoon, and over the course of three days, Marcia and I finished watching “The Departed”, Martin Scorsese award winning directed movie. The movie starred (amongst others) Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, and Mark Wahlberg.

Here is the plot synopsis from IMDB:

n South Boston, the state police force is waging war on Irish-American organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan (DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Frank Costello (Nicholson). While Billy quickly gains Costello’s confidence, Colin Sullivan (Damon),...

(Late) Happy Grandparents Day!
Sunday was Grandparents Day, and I forgot to mention that. I hope that all the grandparents out there had a nice day, and got to spend it with you grandchildren. Then funny thing for me was so quickly thinking about my parents and my Mother-In-Law instead of my grandparents, even though three of them passed away in the last year. I just wish Nigel could have spent part of the day with all three of his grandparents.

Joe Zawinul Dies
One of the two founders of a favorite band of mine PASSED AWAY early this morning, Joe Zawinul, keyboardist of Weather Report. He founded the band...

Lousy Week
Due to a lot of issues, this past week wasn’t all that fun. Marcia had a migraine that lasted three days. Finally on Thursday I had to take her to the emergency room. The general mood of things was just bad all week. Some of this has to do with me putting my foot down about someone that we associate with. That hasn’t helped relations with this person’s spouse. However, Marcia has backed me up 100% with my stance, but still at times I feel that I am being childish. That feeling though comes mostly when I look at my faults, which I had been doing a lot of last week.

Anyway, it’s over and time to move on. And hopefully I will be in a better mood to post things. Especially...

My brother-in-law David had mentioned a couple of weeks before I bought my iPod that Apple would be releasing a new one soon, sometime in the fall. He told me what the new features were, and other then more space, none of them were that interesting to me. Through our conversation too, I got the impression that even with them releasing the new ones, the old ones wouldn’t go down in price.

Well the new iPods were released yesterday. And guess what? The old ones were priced $100 less then what I purchased mine for. I was not happy to hear that (David emailed me the info). But I went to Apple’s site and found out that they had a “grace period” of sorts. If they drop the price within 10 days of your purchase,...

I have a little display on the right hand side of my site here that tells those visiting what I recently read, what I am currently reading, and what I plan on reading next. And since David helped to the make over of this site, pretty much what I put in the currently reading line and the next up line where dead on. But there have been times in the past that I just couldn’t decide what book to read, even starting a few books before settling in on one. Well, that just happened recently.

“Blood Meridian” by Cormac McCarthy has been sitting in the currently reading line for a few days now, but it was one of a three books that I started and didn’t get very far into. McCarthy has been lauded as a reincarnation...

Had a rather nice Labor Day weekend this year. One big factor to this was the weather. Until last night in the house, it was cool throughout.

On Saturday, we had a birthday party to attend. It was my brother-in-law David’s son Lyric’s party. They always have it at this great park about two miles from where they live. There are a few areas of swings and other outdoor gym type things for kids to play with, and each area caters to different age groups. Marcia and I had met David and Catherine there earlier in the summer and found that Nigel loved the slide. This time around we put him on the twisted slide and he loved that, too. He also enjoyed the swings for a while before motioning that he wanted out. The weather...

On Saturday night, Marcia and I watched the movie “The Number 23″ starring Jim Carrey, Virginia Madsen, and Logan Lerman.

number23.jpg

Here is a plot synopsis I found at Amazon.Com:

On his birthday, Walter Sparrow (Carry), an amiable dog-catcher, takes a call that leaves him dog bit and late to pick up his wife (Madsen). She’s browsed in a bookstore, finding a blood-red-covered novel, a murder mystery with numerology that loops constantly around the number 23. The story captivates Walter: he dreams it, he notices aspects of his life that can be rendered by “23,” he searches for the author,...

Appalachian State? Yes, lowly Appalachian State was scheduled as one of those powderpuff teams that the big football schools usually play early in the season. App State was going to Ann Arbor, the Big House, to play the Wolverines of Michigan.

AND THEY BEAT THEM!!!

34-32!! They blocked a field goal in the final seconds to preserve the upset!

Sorry all you U-M fans out there, including my family members, but this MSU Spartans fan is smiling very wide this afternoon.

The STORY can be found on ESPN’s web site.
