Marcia Update
It is only a few days, but Marcia is continuing to feel better. She really believes now that the doctors were correct, and that some of her meds were causing rebounds. She has had pain everyday since leaving the hospital, but hasn’t taken anything for it, and it has gone away. Her mood is much better, which probably helps the cause. Stress can only make them worse.
While in the hospital, they had her go for another MRI. This is her third in seven years. Her last one was just two years ago. They found a cyst in one of her sinus cavities. It is nothing serious, but may need to be treated. Given what Marcia has seen with her migraines, it doesn’t seem to be a cause of them.
She still has a few appointments to go to, other specialists, but hopefully this trend will continue.
Bigger Nets
So the NHL’s brilliant minded (sarcasm) commissioner Gary Bettman is pushing the idea of making the nets they use bigger. This will help increase scoring, therefore bringing in more fans to watch. Well, that’s his theory anyway.
I hate to say it Gary, but us die-hard fans wouldn’t be too happy about that. You keep tinkering with the rules to make more scoring, and it’s going to turn the game into a joke. Us die-hard ENJOY hard fought, low scoring games. A 2-1 game can be just as exciting, and usually more exciting, then an 8-7 barnburner.
An interesting comment came from Roberto Luongo, one of the top goalies in the league. He SAID that he will retire if the NHL starts using bigger nets. Interesting. Can’t say that I blame him for feeling that way, but I think it’s a little over the top. However, if more goalies feel that way, especially top guys like Brodeur, Kiprusoff, Giguere, and Turco, it may just make a bold statement.
It remains to be seen if this will happen, but I got this strange feeling that Bettman may talk enough GM’s into it.
Sticking Up, Or Sticking Out?
A lot has been made about Mike Gundy, the head football coach of Oklahoma St. and his tirade after their game this past Saturday. At first I hadn’t seen the whole incident, and only saw parts of it. I couldn’t understand why some thought what he did was wrong. Since seeing the whole video, I have also seen some interviews and read some of what was talked about. It seems that there were mistakes on both sides. However, I still would be supporting what Coach Gundy said. He went too far, but the main message is something that has bothered me for a long time: the media goes way too far sometimes. They make “observations” on something when they don’t know all the facts. And though you have a right to your own opinion, it doesn’t mean that you can be seemingly heartless and say anything cruel just because it is your own opinion. And for the record, I do think Gundy went too far with some of the things he said.
For that would like more insight on this incident, there is a good ARTICLE on ESPN’s web site regarding it which includes some videos, too.

See, I don’t follow hockey, but I agree with the goalie who threatened to quit. It’s sort of like introducing aluminum bats to MLB.
