Marcia, Nigel, and I are headed down to Williamsburg, Virginia this morning. We will be there a week, with various jaunts to other places (Richmond to visit her relatives, possibly Jamestown and other spots). It may be quiet around here while we are gone. I am not sure what opportunities I will have to even check email, let alone post about our activities while there.

This is a hilarious video of a Japanese TV show that pits teams against each other in a form of Tetris. I couldn’t help myself. I just had to post it.

Joyous Buschna!
I am a day late, but I hope all of you had a Joyous Buschna.

Of course, many of you don’t know what Buschna is. (Pronounced BUSH-nah) Buschna is the made-up holiday for those of us with Eastern European heritage. It is the day when we go out and feast, mostly on sausage and potatoes and sauerkraut, and wash it all down with a good beer.

Though quite honestly, anyone can celebrate Buschna, and we welcome all that want to. The whole idea was to get a holiday in August (which doesn’t have any) to fill the void between July 4th and Labor Day. So mark August 15th on your calendar and remember to wish everyone a Joyous Buschna next year!

Late Birthday Dinner...

This past weekend Marcia and I finished “The Godfather Trilogy” by watching “The Godfather, Part II” and “The Godfather, Part III”, which was over six hours combined.

I am not going to go into details of what the plots are. Most know, given the popularity of them, or you can guess, given who it deals with. The stories sometimes are complicated, given that you are trying to figure out where everyone stands and how they are involved, and what they have to gain. But it makes for good drama regardless.

The hardest thing was getting past Al Pacino in the third movie. His voice has...

A funny observance in the comics today from “Speed Bump” by Dave Coverly.

I have noticed that even commercials are utilizing widescreen. What’s even funnier is that this used to be referred to as “letterbox.” But obviously widescreen sounds like you are getting something more or something better.

Safety Net Used

So I mentioned that finishing in the top 4 in the ladder for our league gave you a safety net to lose the first game of the finals (playoffs). It’s well used now. The Freedom lost to the Los Angeles Highwaymen 945-858. To top it off, the Edmonton Bombers crushed my recently set record of most points in a game by scoring 1113. So it wasn’t a good week for my team.

This week we take on fellow SE Pennsylvanian Brian (who actually lives in Philly) and his Jersey Shore Crushers. They got by the somewhat weak Southern Warriors in the first round. After the way my team has performed the last two weeks, I am getting worried. Hopefully...

Back on Wednesday night, I finished reading “The Grave of God’s Daughter” by Brett Ellen Block.

The following synopsis is what is printed on the back of the book. I was wandering around Borders one day and the title of the book caught my eye. After reading what the story was about, it caught my attention enough to buy it.

A woman is faced with the past she’s tried to put behind her only to find that what transpired in her childhood has never been further away than her own shadow.

The year is 1941. Rooted in the lonely outreaches of the Allegheny...

Even though I am only one day older then I was yesterday, officially I am one year older. But that’s the beauty of aging. Though you keep getting older every day, you can hold off actually being seen as older for 365 (or 366) days.

You can check out Wikipedia’s page about AUGUST 9 to see what other interesting things happened on this day and who I share my birthday with. I tried to post a link, but my web site’s admin area is acting up this morning.

Hockeytown Is One Less
It appears that Mr. Bill Davidson, native Detroiter, is selling his hockey team, the Tampa Bay Lightning. After purchasing the team in 1999, he became the third native Detroiter at that time to own an NHL team (obviously the Illitch family owns the Red Wings, along with Peter Karmanos who owns the Carolina Hurricanes). There have been rumors swirling around that the NHL was going to grant two more expansion teams in the coming years, and one would be located in Las Vegas and owned by yet another native Detroiter (making four), famous movie director Jerry Bruckheimer. But that is just a rumor, and quite frankly I don’t think the NHL needs to add teams. There are plenty of teams that are...
