Rafael Nadal is the French Open champ for the third straight year; 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. And for the second straight year he beat the world’s number one player in the finals, Roger Federer, denying him his career Grand Slam yet again.
I watched most of the match with my Mother-In-Law (along with Marcia, all three of us are avid tennis fans). And what we had hoped would be a great match turned into a gut wrenchingly bad performance by Roger Federer. Though he took the second set, he looked like he had little confidence in himself. What didn’t help was his first serve was just awful.
Federer must have been rather upset with himself because he refused the request from Bud Collins for an after match interview.

Nadal shows off his hardware.
These two have a strangle hold on the Grand Slam events, though Federer has more of a hold on them. The last nine Grand Slams have been won by Nadal and Federer, though Nadal’s victories have only come at the French. But greener pastures are on the horizon for Federer as the tour heads over to Wimbledon in a few weeks where he is the four-time defending champ.

I’m pleased that he won again, I find him much more likeable than Federer. I love his passion for the game, and I love that he’s not afraid to get emotional on the tennis court. I guess that’s the girl in me.
I think Nadal will win Wimbledon this year, even though Federer is the grass court specialist, I think he has a psychological sore spot when it comes to Nadal.
It’s been a good day, sports-wise! Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grandprix!

I was going to post about Hamilton’s win tomorrow morning. I am a McLaren fan at heart (loved the Mika and Coulthard days), and it’s great to see another barrier being broken.
