Underdogs
The Detroit Red Wings finished with the second best record in the NHL this season. They had the best record in their conference. Yet each series they have been the underdog. Kind of funny how the “experts” see things.

Given their more recent playoff past however I can understand. And in this upcoming series against the Anaheim Ducks (my pre-season pick to win the Cup this year), being the underdog isn’t all that surprising. The Ducks were the strongest team in the West for most of the season before the Wings made a run for the number one seed late. Should be a great series.

Underplayed
The last few days in celebration of Rush’s new album “Snakes & Arrows”, I have been listening to all of Rush’s material in an “A to Z” format. (Actually A to Y since they don’t have any song titles that start with Z … or Zed in their case.)

One thing has come to mind though. A lot of these songs they never have played live. They wrote it, recorded it, and that was it. There may even be fans that are musicians that love a song they never played live and play it themselves, therefore knowing the song better then the writers and original performers. Just something that crossed my mind.

Underbelly
Nigel hasn’t said anything continually yet as identifying a word or sound with something, but it’s obvious that he is picking up on things. One of the funniest is knowing where his belly is. He lifts up his shirt and points to his belly button. He also knows where his milk is, and will lead Marcia to the refrigerator, try to open it, and even try to pick up the carton of milk.

We are trying to make a point of saying the word/name of items he is playing with, or asking if he is hungry, etc. Hopefully he will start picking up on those words and using them back at us.

Sometimes we think he can communicate a little, especially when we say “You are one tired boy, aren’t you?” and then he will start shaking his head no. It’s almost as if he knows that we want him to take a nap.
