My Grandmother died this morning. She was married to my Grandfather who passed away just after Thanksgiving.
She had a few mini-strokes (so the doctor called) a few weeks ago and had not been the same since. I am kind of numb right now, after losing both of them in a short period of time. My Grandpa G died just a few days before the Bay Area earthquake in 1989, so I knew that eventually these days would be coming. But I didn’t expect to see both my Grandpa and Grandma Fab pass away so close to each other. (Though I also know that is usually the case.)
Rest in peace Grandma.

I had what was supposed to be my last appointment dealing with my back. Things were healing up very nicely, except for one problem. While changing my bandage on Saturday, Marcia and I noticed something seemed to be sticking out. It was another suture that didn’t dissolve.
My appointment last night turned into a mini-surgery to remove the suture. Then the real fun began. The doctor gave me a prescription for an anti-biotic and I stopped at the drug store to have it filled, waiting for it. I got home and let Molson out right away, since it was after 8:00. Then went and picked up and hugged Nigel. At some point during this time the incision started to bleed again. When I was changing for the evening the pad was nothing...

My Mother-In-Law has a walk-out basement. The windows downstairs are pretty big. Outside the window by the computer there is a shrub. Over the last few days a robin has been hanging out in it, pecking at the window.

Some reason the flash in the first picture didn’t work. This second shot the flash worked.

Marcia said this isn’t the first time a bird has hung out in that shrub and seemed to want to gain entrance to the house.

Laurie Anderson - “Mister Heartbreak”

Tracks:
- Sharkey’s Day
- Langue d’Amour
- Gravity’s Angel
- Kokoku
- Excellent Birds
- Blue Lagoon
- Sharkey’s Night
While working at CHL, I sat next to Jose for a few years. We have similar music tastes, but I had never heard any of Laurie Anderson’s work. He had lost his copy of “Mister Heartbreak” and asked if I could order it for him through my Amazon.Com account. He also said that I was more then welcome to listen to it before giving it to him. I went out...

I lost two players that I thought were really good as part of the draft this season. We could only keep six from the previous year’s roster. I was hoping to get one of them back, but both were drafted in the first round before my pick. I was then worried about getting a couple of good replacements. So far those replacements have been doing very well.
This past week made it three wins in a row to start the season. It was a 933-880 victory over Los Angeles. Good week to have the highest point total, since LA had the fifth highest. All my players scored 81 points or higher. I picked Daniel...

Nigel’s Hunger
The old saying is “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Well, it appears that Nigel is becoming that stereotypical male. The last two nights around dinner time we have asked him if he is hungry and would like dinner. He obviously picks up on one of the words, starts to smile and laugh, and then makes a beeline for the kitchen stopping in front of his high-chair with arms up (this is the signal to lift him up). It is just too darn cute, but also cool to see that he understands certain words now.
Red Wings 3, Flames 1
I got to watch most of the Wings game this afternoon. They now lead the series 2 games to none. A very fast start set...

A few nights ago I finished reading “The Green Age of Asher Witherow”, the debut novel by M. Allen Cunningham.

I saw this book a little over a year ago on my recommendations list at Amazon.Com. Out of interest it made it to my wish list. Eventually as my mood changed of what I wanted to read, I deleted it. But a month ago I found myself trying to remember the name of the book and soon found it for a bargain price.
The synopsis from Publishers Weekly via Amazon.Com:
A miner’s son is immersed in the dark spirituality of an insular, mostly Welsh Northern California mining town in the...

Our friends down the street (almost literally) in Easton, Pennsylvania at the Weyerbacher Brewery like to do something absolutely wonderful with their best beers. After brewing them, instead of aging them (if needed) the usual way and bottling them up, they put them into oak bourbon casks to age. They have done this a few times, and I have been able to grab a bottle of two earlier ones.
Old Heathen Stout made into Heresy (my POST about it)
Merry Monk’s...

I have added a couple of new blogs to my LINKS section. These are two blogs that I visit quite frequently now. Both are hockey related.
The first one is title “Abel to Yzerman” and centers on the Detroit Red Wings. I can’t remember how I stumbled across this one.
The second one is a blog dedicated to a “cause”, and a cause that I believe in. On the other hand, it is also a cause that I feel won’t make a difference whatsoever. I would think that those that run it know this, but want to speak out. It’s called “Fire Bettman”, referring to the often fan-hated NHL Commissioner...

The Freedom pulled away for another victory last week. They beat the Glendale Sparrows 858-652. Five of my players scored over 90 points a piece which was a big help. I had Daniel Cross of the Western Bulldogs pegged as my captain for the double points rule. He had 124 for a total of 248. It proved to be a pretty good choice. Cameron Bruce of the Melbourne Demons scored 127, so I only missed out on an extra three points. This week I play Los Angeles.
