A few sports notes of interest to me.

Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn Goin’ to Cooperstown
Both of them were elected on their first ballots. Given the rest of the players on the ballot, it is not surprising. Sure, some of them probably will eventually get to the Hall of Fame (like Jim Rice). But it’s hard to argue with what Ripken and Gwynn did.

The thing that is more interesting to many is the supposed snub of Mark MacGwire. With the cloud of his alleged steroid use over him, he only made it on 23% of the ballots. That leaves him eligible for further votes, but it seemed to be a message from the voters that the cloud could keep him out of the Hall.

Last night Nigel’s pediatrician called us. Though it’s not the official word from the neurologist, she could still make a qualified comment based on the results of the MRI. And the result is that he has a big head. That’s all.

Now, Marcia was asleep and I was trying to feed Nigel, who was being cranky, so I didn’t ask her about any effects that his big head will have with development, because he was actually given a diagnosis of Acute Benign Hydrocephalus, or something along those lines. It basically means that he has more fluid then normal around the frontal lobes of his brain. But anything and everything involved with that fluid and the brain itself is all normal.
