I have been a Michigan St. fan for many years. There was a time when I was a kid (we are talking single digit years and before my teens) that I would root for Michigan. But I have always found their athletic programs too much to take. It seems the general persona is always “We are better then you and you just have to deal with it, because we are mighty Michigan.”
But there is always one day that I don’t mind cheering for the Maize and Blue. As a matter of fact, I relish rooting on the Wolverines. And that day is always the last day of the Big Ten’s football season. The day U-M plays Ohio St. If there is one team that I love to root against more then U-M, it’s the Buckeyes of Ohio St.
Of course most know the significance of this rivalry. No matter the standings, it is always THE game of the season for these two teams. It is so well recognized as probably the fiercest of college football rivalries that ESPN included it as part of an add campaign several years ago, that without sports certain things in life would be so drastically different. (See below.)

This year it is not only the most important game for the season for U-M and OSU, and in the Big Ten, but the whole college football nation. Both teams are undefeated, and ranked number one and two. The winner is probably a lock to win the National Championship, while the loser goes to the Rose Bowl (which used to be the game these two schools fought to WIN the right to go to).
We will see what this Saturday brings. And when the two teams take the field at the famous “horseshoe” in Columbus, I will be dropping my Spartan green and white for a few hours. (Especially considering they will probably lose to Penn St. this weekend.)

I remember that commercial. When I was sweet on my friend from Detroit, I always mentioned that commercial (y’know, with my in my Flyers jersey and her in her Wings). But now she’s a Blues fan since her favorite player plays for them now.

Marcia and I took that exact picture Brian (her in a Flyers jersey, me in a Wings jersey) as part of our engagement photo shoot that was part of the wedding day photo package. I think we packed the picture in with the items for storage, so I won’t be able to scan it and post it for a while, but I will when I get it back in hand.

I’m hoping somebody dominates. the idea of a rematch at the end of the BCS season does NOT appeal to me. Go, Rutgers!
