From what I was told he also caught the flu that most of the family got this past weekend. He got up early in the morning to go to the bathroom and collapsed.
My Grandfather always seemed to be a strong man. My early memories of him was a broad-chested man who knew how to take care of things. He served in World War II. (I believe he spent most of his service days in Italy and north Africa.) In the picture of his squad (or whatever the correct word is) he was easy to pick out because he seemed so much bigger then others, almost like a tank amongst regular sized cars. About 6 years ago he had triple by-pass surgery. This was the first sign to me that he was in fact a fragile human being....
Our trip to Detroit to visit my family and spend Thanksgiving and Nigel’s Birthday was great. Until everyone got the flu. Unfortunately Marcia, Nigel, and I didn’t seem to get it until the trip home. We had to make many stops on Monday, and wound up stopping in Harmarsville, Pennsylvania because we just couldn’t make it any farther.
Today was a real trip. I actually didn’t start feeling bad until AFTER we got to the hotel last night. So it was a real challenge to drive across most of the state feeling like I was ready to pass out.
It’s my son’s first birthday today! (OK, so most of the readers know this already.) But I just wanted to take the time and post it on the site.
Happy Birthday to my son! You have made mine and your Mom’s life’s so wonderful! You appropiately arrived at Thanksgiving time, because we are so very thankful that God brought you to into our lives.
My sister-in-law Angie has a membership for the Sears Photo Studio where you get cheap rates for sittings and photos. So Marcia and I decided to take advantage of her membership while here in Detroit. We had wanted to have professional photos done of Nigel for his first birthday. They took twelve pictures, and then we ditched a few since he wasn’t looking directly at the camera or we took two shots of the same pose and picked the better of the two. Here is how they turned out.
I had a really bad cold about a month ago. I missed a couple of days of work. But I caught something yesterday. Not sure what. We were wondering if it was the food I had for dinner, but that was the same thing we had at Nigel’s party. Others had it last night, too. Anyway, I haven’t been that violently ill in over a decade. And I hope it’s...
Yesterday afternoon we had the first of two birthday parties for Nigel’s first birthday. Since we are going to Detroit to visit my family for Thanksgiving, and that his birthday is that Saturday we are there, we decided for his first birthday, we would celebrate twice so both families could enjoy it.
Marcia and I had a lot of help getting things together. Especially my Mother-In-Law who made stuffed cabbage and cooked the other food we served. Also, my sister-in-law Catherine helped a lot in getting the food prepared and set-up.
I have been a Michigan St. fan for many years. There was a time when I was a kid (we are talking single digit years and before my teens) that I would root for Michigan. But I have always found their athletic programs too much to take. It seems the general persona is always “We are better then you and you just have to deal with it, because we are mighty Michigan.”
But there is always one day that I don’t mind cheering for the Maize and Blue. As a matter of fact, I relish rooting on the Wolverines. And that day is always the last day of the Big Ten’s football season. The day U-M plays Ohio St. If there is one team that I love to root against more then U-M, it’s the Buckeyes of Ohio St.
I came across a rather interesting read for hockey fans, by Brian Cazeneuve of Sports Illustrated’s web site. He wrote an ARTICLE about players’ numbers in hockey, inspired by the fact that a player for the Montreal Canadiens recently started wearing number 84, becoming the last of the single and doubt digit number worn (from 1-99, 0, and 00). Cazeneuve decided to make a list of the greatest players to ever wear a number. You can read the article to find out about his “rules” for making the list, since some players wore different numbers throughout their careers.
