Down Time
The admin area of my site was down for the last three days. Not sure what happened, and not sure how it was fixed. I had emailed David, asking if he could help me out, even though he was on vacation. But I don’t think they have internet access where they are at. Anyway, it has been fixed somehow so I can post again.
This Past Weekend
We had a good time with Marcia’s relatives from Virginia this past weekend. Though we only saw them on Sunday. Marcia had a migraine on Saturday. Molson made the trip with us up to my Mother-In-Law’s where everyone was hanging out. We wish we could have spent more time with them, but on the other hand we have seen them more...

Earlier this week, maybe Wednesday (I can’t remember), I finished reading “Smoke and Mirrors” by Neil Gaiman. This is a short story collection, or better put from the dust jacket, short fictions and illusions.

Here is the rundown of stories:
“A Rondel”
“An Introduction” (which includes the story “The Wedding Present”)
“Chivalry”
“Nicholas Was …”
“The Price”
“Troll Bridge”
“Don’t Ask Jack”
“The Goldfish Pool and Other Stories”
“The White Road”

This time no one was hurt.
Odd that this happened on the day that another major terrorist attack on the US and UK was foiled.
This morning at 4:30 I was woken up by a loud bang or crash noise and some squeeling tires. I wasn’t sure if it was in a dream or not, but just seconds later heard what seemed like two pairs of footsteps (running) along the sidewalk outside our bedroom window. It had me wondering what the hell was going on, and I almost went to go see what it was, but decided that another 30 minutes of sleep would be better.
Less than 10 minutes later there was a bigger crash and the sound of wood falling. I knew right away that it was the wooden fence around the recycle bins across from...

I got a very funny birthday card from my Uncle Len and Aunt Mary. On the front it has a picture of a glass of water, half filled / half empty. It then says:
Some people see the glass of water as half empty. Some see the glass of water as half full.
Then on the inside:
You see the glass and say, “Let’s pour out the water and fill it with beer!”
I also got one from Marcia’s Uncle Joe and Grammy regarding how a tribesman should not light the candles on his birthday cake after feeding his pet elephant baked beans.
The best however was my first birthday card that referred to me as “Daddy.” It has a father brontosaurus and his son riding...

OK, so not yours. But it’s mine. ; )
Along with probably millions of others around the world, it’s my birthday today. I have posted some of the famous people that I share the day with, or important/special events that have happened. I found most, if not all of them, at Wikipedia. You can SEE for yourself.
Nothing outrageous planned today. As I mentioned before, I have already celebrated with both families. But I will be going to lunch with my friend Andy. And Marcia plans on making something special for dinner tonight.
I figure that spending time with the best and brightest gifts in my life, Marcia and Nigel, is the best...

Nigel’s Sleeping Habits
For the last couple of nights, Nigel has been waking up early or in the middle of the night. The real bugger was two nights ago. I had a very hard time getting asleep. After tossing and turning for an hour and a half, I finally got to sleep, only to be woken up an hour later by Nigel. Marcia, as always on weeknights, fed him and got him back to sleep. But that night it was very hard for me to get back to sleep again. I really feel sorry for Marcia having her sleep interrupted worse then mine.
Another thing that Nigel had been doing, and has since seemed to stop, was rolling over on his side and falling asleep. At some points he would almost be completely on his stomach. Like...

I know that Catherine is dying to know how my team is doing. Unfortunately I have lost two in a row. (Last weeks was by only 8 points, and I scored over 800!) Now with just two weeks left in the regular season, I am currently in 5th place, one game out of the playoffs. Hopefully I can get some help from the teams above me. Though next week I take on the first place Edmonton Bombers. Not going to be easy. But after last year, a 5th place finish this year is still something to be proud of.
Here is the current ladder:

Finally, the review! I finished “Strange Itineraries” by Tim Powers about two weeks ago. I just haven’t had the time to comment on it. Part of that was the impact it left on me. It didn’t bowl me over. But then it still left a decent impression on me.

The book is a collection of short stories. It is Powers’ only published collection. He is primarily a novel writer. I think it showed in this collection. A lot of great ideas that needed more time to get fleshed out. There was one story that (to me) screamed the need to be a novel, or even just a novella. His style is modern/urban fantasy, with a penchant...

Given that Marcia’s relatives from Virginia are coming to town next weekend (actually Thursday), and that my birthday falls in the middle of the week, we celebrated it with Marcia’s family yesterday. It was a scaled down affair, just sandwiches and great macaroni salad from Catherine, and Paula’s famous taco dip.
I bought a case of Sam Adams’ Summer Ale for the affair. I knew it would be too much, but essentially you can only buy beer by the case here in Pennsylvania. As it was, my Mother-In-Law got me a case of 12 bottle of Chapeau Kriek from De Troche. It’s a Belgian cherry lambic. Then Marcia’s Uncle Joe and Grammy gave me a case of Molson Golden!...
