“Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”

Part of the reason I haven’t been blogging lately is because my mind has been consumed with something important. I am leaving my current employer. I have worked for Clayton H. Landis Co., Inc. (aka CHL Systems) for just over five years. But over the last couple of years things have become a little disorientated for me. There are two sides of the engineering department, and that in itself is the first issue I have. One side does steel mill work (the side I have been on), and it keeps adding levels of management. I have been depended on to design and detail most of the equipment we have done, and it has worn on me. Especially after seeing ads for companies looking to hire people with less experience then me, but paying them up to 20% more then I am paid. There are other issues involved as well, but I would rather not air those here. Besides, there are still many good things about CHL. I will miss most of the employees that I deal with on a day-to-day basis. They are a great bunch.

Just yesterday I officially accepted an offer with FMC Technologies. They are the material handling division of FMC, which in itself is a rather big international company. On top of a very healthy increase in pay, I will also be getting a little bit better health benefits, and the addition of vision and dental. Another big plus is much, much lower co-pays on prescription drugs. And a 401K (I like these because you save for retirement without even thinking abou it). It all adds up.

My last day with CHL is on Friday September 8th. I will then be starting at FMC on Wednesday September 12th. I am a bit nervous, but look forward to the new challanges.
