I was TAGGED by an internet friend, Sarah, who is from Detroit. Her blog is called An American Aries. This is what is referred to as a meme. I have heard the term, and kind of know what it means, but the LINK at Wikipedia might help you, like it did myself. Looking for thought provoking books, sorry. Most of what I read is fiction for entertainment.

So here it goes!

1: One book that changed your life: Gonna sound strange, but it probably was “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Arthur C. Clarke. It was the first book that really made me realize what one could do with a vivid imagination.

2: One book you have read more than once: I don’t have one. Sure, there are some biographies that I have read sections/chapters of more then once. If there was a book that I would go out of my way to read again, it would probably be “Middlesex” by Jeffrey Eugenides, the Pulitzer Prize winner for 2003. I “read” the audio version, and would like to actually read the paper version which is sitting on my shelf. Another choice would be “House of Leaves” by Mark Z. Danielewski, because it was very complex and I skipped over many of the footnotes, which all put together were a story unto themselves.

3: One book you would want on a desert island: Probably the Bible. Considering I would be there quite a while and have time to think, it would a good opportunity to try and digest all of it.

4: One book that made you laugh: The book that probably has made me laugh the most is “The Far Side Gallery 4″ by Gary Larson. “The Far Side” was not necessarily my favorite cartoon strip; that distinction belongs to “Calvin and Hobbes”. But one-panel strips are made for laughs and laughs only. Though there are some great ones out there, but nobody did them better then Larson.

5: One book you wish had been written: Hard to choose. I wish I had written anything by Guy Gavriel Kay. Even his worst stuff. He is a master wordsmith and storyteller.

6: One book you wish had never had been written: I am leaning towards “The Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown. It’s a work of FICTION everybody. Can we leave it at that?

7: One book that made you cry: OK, I hate to admit it, but Elizabeth Haydon did a great job in creating the drama and love between two characters in the first trilogy of her “Symphony of Ages” series. When things finally come together for Rhapsody and Ash in the third book, “Destiny: Child of the Sky”, I have to admit it brought tears to my eyes. I knew that though the series was an excellent fantasy story with magic and dragons and swords and political intrigue, it also contains bits of romance to it. I didn’t want to get sucked it, but I did. Call me a wimp. Call me a fool. I don’t care.

8: One book you are currently reading: I usually only read one at a time. I have a hard time multi-tasking when it comes to reading. And that is “Smoke and Mirrors” by Neil Gaiman. It’s a collection of short stories. Or as stated on the cover, a collection of stories and illusions. (This reminds me that I still have a book review to post of the one I read before this. Yikes!)

9: One book you have been meaning to read: “Silas Marner” by George Eliot. For those of you that don’t know, my wife Marcia and her sister Catherine wrote a musical based on this book. I have heard the songs many times, and have always wanted to experience the story in it’s written form.

10: Now tag five people:

David of “ZogWorld”

Catherine of “Bowl of Oatmeal”

Roger of “Ramblin’ With Roger”

Karen at “It’s My Blog and I’ll Say What I Want To!”

Author and friend Eve Vaughn

And I am not going to hold those tagged to doing the meme. Just thought it would be fun to see your answers to the same questions.

    Book Meme

OK – so I was pinged by my brother-in-law to do a book meme. Just to keep things on the up and up , here is Wikipedia’s take on memes.
There are 9 questions and 1 request to be covered here.

One book that changed your life
    One book you have…
