As I MENTIONED back on Wednesday, I left a message for my supervisor (the head of the engineering departement) about the idea of working from home. The reason I brought this up is because of Marcia’s migraines. They have been getting bad again, though her new doctor seems to actually be making more progress in the last couple months then any other doctor has in the last 15 years. During those days she is too ill to take care of Nigel, and we don’t have anyone else to turn to.
To my surprise, the company is going through with this request. I was just bringing it up as an idea so a discussion could develop given what would need to happen and what needs to be taken into consideration. But not only did they talk about it right away on Wednesday (while I was at home), they have already taken steps to put this in place as soon as possible. One of the two software programs I use sets up it’s licenses so employees can have a copy on their home PC. That will be a big help since the way they are going to do this is through my internet connection. I will be working remotely off my PC at work. Of course if there are any issues, they will try to find a way around it. But that particular software (SolidWorks) is very graphically instense, which may bog down badly working remotely. The others should be good.
For Marcia’s sake, hopefully I will never have to work from home. But I am very thankful that my employer thinks enough of me to make this happen. It will benefit both of us after all.

The ability to work from home is wonderful. Dad works from home several days a month. Some of his coworkers have a specific day each week for doing this.

I seem to get more done and at a much more relaxed pace.

With watching Nigel in a situation like that, I don’t see myself getting more then 6 hours of work done. But that is more then I would not having the option. And though it is nice to have that available to me, I will only be able to work from home on days that Marcia is too ill to watch Nigel.
