After seeing the post about the 50 Worst Albums, and after talking just a couple of days ago with a fellow co-worker about Traffic’s “John Barleycorn Must Die” (which he borrowed and has not gotten back), the fact that my music collection has some holes has had me thinking. There are certain bands that I have heard what I liked, but have only one album, or worst yet none. So who are they?
Traffic - Led by the very young and talented Steve Winwood. He co-founded Traffic when he was 19 years old, and had already gained acclaim from his four years with the Spencer Davis Group. I have nothing from Traffic and honestly don’t think that their greatest hits collection “Smiling Phases” is going to be enough.
Cream - How is it that I like power trios like Rush and King’s X, and not have anything from the original power trio? Not to mention that this is probably some of Clapton’s best work, and Yes opened for them at their “farewell” concert. Yeah, I am pretty lame.
Gentle Giant - Kerry Minnear and the Shulman brothers put together some of the most complex three to four minute songs in the progressive rock world. One of the virtual prog rock giants (no pun intended) of the early 70’s. Yet I only have one of their albums, that being “Octopus”.
David Bowie - With all his great work out there, and some of it with guitar great Adrian Belew, it’s kind of a shame that I don’t have anything by the Thin White Duke. Well, other then the first Tin Machine album. I think “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust” should be in my collection.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - I have seen these guys live. (And what a great show that was!) I have most of bass player Victor Wooten’s solo material. But still I don’t have any of the Flecktones albums.
Camel - Another progressive rock band from the 70’s, though not as well known. I have “The Snow Goose”, but nothing else by them.
Santana - Another one that I shake my head at. I have countless times had “Abraxas” or his debut in my hands, but put it back because there were other CD’s I wanted more.

Scott- Go to Amazon, or some equivalent, and buy Abraxas, FCOL! In fact, also buy Ziggy Stardust (Bowie), John Barleycorn (Traffic), and/or Disraeli Gears (Cream), whatever it takes to get to $25 and free shipping.

I was thinking that myself Roger. With the raise, I figured I could treat myself to some new music.
