Favorite Albums - Part 27 Nigel and Thank You
Jan 14

Marcia and I hosted an impromptu and non-homemade pizza night last night. It was mostly done for our friend Andy whose birthday is this Monday, January 16th (same as my brother Brian’s). Andy and his wife Yvonne ordered pizza from a local pizzeria and brought it along with them. My Dad and sister Jenn drove into town earlier that afternoon for Nigel’s Christening this Sunday. It was a smaller crowd, but a lot of fun. It was also nice not to have to worry about making any pizza or having a bunch of snacks and other food. It was just pizza and beer (a “winter” sampler from Sam Adams, which I will post more about later).

After, we played Texas Hold ‘Em with some chips that Marcia got for her birthday last year (though it was a late present). Andy has been participating in free tournaments at the local Iron Hill Brewery, and a couple of weeks ago finished third out of over 70 players. So he was the favorite going in. We had eight players, and believe it or not, but I won. There were a few times I was severely the short stack at the table, but got good hands and went “all in” against the biggest stacks. This also happened when it was down to Jenn and I. But I got three good hands in a row and soon enough she was down to nothing.

It was a lot of fun, though not because I won at poker. It was a nice, relaxed get together, with the best basics: good food and good company.
