I feel so far removed now from the auto industry, but I have decided to sound off on a couple of things. I stumbled across some pictures on the Detroit Free Press web site of concept cars that will be shown at the North American International Auto Show held annually in January at Cobo Hall in Detroit. I looked because David had mentioned that Chevy was trying to follow Ford with bringing back an old legendary look with modern twists, and wanted to see what they came up with. Unlike Ford with the Mustang, Chevy literally brought the Camero back from the dead.

It’s not bad, but not great. I think it’s too much of a copy cat of Ford. Of course Chrysler is joining the game as well with it’s resurrection of the Challenger.

Again, not bad, but not great. Though the Challenger looks much more like it’s original.
Two other cars though caught my eye. First the Pontiac Solstice.

Now that’s sharp! Though I like the roaster look, like the BMW Z series. This one could compete with those looking for something along the lines of a Honda S2000 and Toyota MR2, or the old Mazda Miata, all cheaper alternatives to the Porsche Boxster. Though the ultimate problem with this one is that it’s still only a Pontiac.
The one that REALLY grabbed my attention though was the new Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

Sorry, but I have always like Ferraris, in all shapes and sizes. And the biggest reason I like this new one is that it reminds of the late 60’s / early 70’s Ferrari 365 Daytona (see below).

I like what the Italians did with an old body style more then the US companies resurrecting old dreams. At least the Ferrari isn’t “badged” to be a legend like the others. Though it probably will be one.
One of these days I am going to get back to Detroit for the Auto Show.

There is one common problem I see with all of those cars…….no room for a baby seat in the back!!!!! I thought you might have had a nice write up on a spacious mini-van!!!!!!!
Which by the way I own, and love having it.

I told Marcia that we are going to have to face the inevitable and get a mini-van. We barely have enough room in the Jeep even before including Molson. If we have another child, it will happen.
