I haven’t watched any hockey for about two weeks now, but this caught my attention.

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired Warren, Michigan native and Warren Woods Tower alum Doug Weight yesterday. The Canes, who at the time of this trade, have the best record in the NHL (though the Senators had three games in-hand) are making a show for “small market” teams. I am sure all the GM’s and coaches of teams in the Eastern Conference all used a few bad words when they heard about this. I tend to agree with Scott Burnside in his ARTICLE on ESPN’s web site that the Canes are slowly becoming favorites...

My family’s web site, which is in blog form, is now open. Still have to finish the look, which David has come up with, but things are working.

Here are so more pictures of Nigel. All of these are from this weekend.

Marcia and I bought him a new outfit last weekend and finally put him in it on Saturday. The hat was the clincher.

Of course Marcia likes it when kids wear it sideways.

Nigel had his first REAL bath this Saturday! As you can see, he didn’t enjoy it at first.

Once we started rinsing him off with bowls of water poured over his chest, then he seemed to be content.

This is from “Pearls Before Swine” by Stephen Pastis. It is not the best drawn comic out there, but I always find it funny.

I had to alter it to fit. You can find the original and others of this strip HERE.

It is always so hard to follow the Australian Open. It is in the dead of winter here (though it has been unseasonably warm all month), and the time difference is a killer. But I did want to mention who won this year.

Roger Federer, who now has been the number men’s player for about three years, won his seventh Grand Slam by beating newcomer Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0, 6-2. I had seen bits and pieces of two earlier round matches of Federer’s, and I, along with the experts, was wondering if he could pull it off. He was struggling, making way too many unforced errors. But obviously the guy has the talent to fight through it.

Nigel had his first laugh this afternoon. He was sleeping when I came home from work, but he had been really fussy all day. We are beginning to think his acid reflux is getting worse. (Waiting for the pediatrician to call back.)

Anyway, we laid him on our bed and Marcia was busy with a phone call. So with me just trying to amuse him, I eventually got him to smile again, and after repeating what I did three times he smiled again and then laughed.

It came on a good day too, since Marcia was getting frustrated with how cranky he has been for two days now.

Maybe you hockey fans have heard this already, but the NHL’s Anaheim based franchise will be slightly altering their name for next season. The team will officially be called the Anaheim Ducks, switching from the Disney movie inspired Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. It was officially announced today after I saw rumors of this on a sports forum. There is a brief ARTICLE on ESPN’s web site.

The rumors actually started the day the Samueli’s bought the team. There was even speculation of them reviving the old Seals nickname from the 60′s and early 70′s....

I know …… you are all shocked.

OK, so catching up a little here. For Nigel’s Christening we got a Winter Brew Sampler of Sam Adams. I, for one, have always felt that their commercial’s say it well. “Sam Adams: Always a good decision.” Every beer I have had by them has been good to excellent. The only one I haven’t liked will be explained below, and it isn’t because of quality.

The Pastor of the church Marcia and I went when we lived in Quakertown was a beer lover, too. We had a discussion one night about what our “go to” beer was. Meaning that if you go somewhere and the selection is not as good, or if you just aren’t sure what you are...

If any of you have MSN as your homepage, or even go there, you probably saw the ARTICLE written by Detroit Free Press sports columnist Michael Rosenberg. If not, give it a look. For those of you from Detroit you might find yourself agreeing with him. For those of you that are not from Detroit, you SHOULD read it. It gives you a little insight to my hometown. Even if it is mostly about sports. The idea though is Rosenberg defending Detroit and it’s bad reputation.

According to an ARTICLE from Fox Sports, it appears that #66 is going back up to the rafters of Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh. After being diagnosed with a heart problem, Mario Lemieux is reportedly going to retire again. This will be the second position on the team he has “resigned” from in the last two weeks, after stepping down as CEO.

Mario (left) seen on the bench next to phenom Sidney Crosby during one of the few games he played this year.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mario play twice late in his career. Marcia had heard of his announcement to come...
