Marcia took the Munchkin Man (meaning Nigel) to a doctor’s appointment today. The main thing was to check his weight. A couple of days after his birth he had only lost 2 ounces, which is very good. (We were told that babies usually lose as much as half a pound after birth.) But one week later, all he had gained was those 2 ounces back. So they wanted us to bring him in again just to check. He is now one full pound heavier then he was at birth, which made the pediatrician very happy. (And his Mom and Dad.)
We also had been worried about his eating habits and a raspy, congested sound he has after eating. The pediatrician said that the amount that he is eating is good, though all babies are different. And as for the congested sound she said that Nigel, like all babies his age, doesn’t know how to clear his own throat. Once he does the sound will go away, though she suggested that we prop him up better when feeding, instead of laying him almost completely flat.
It is amazing to realize all the things you take for granted when you become a parent for the first time.

What I found amazing were all the special first time things that they do. Most people just think of the first time, setting up, holding up their head, crawling, walking, talking. But as I’m sure your already seeing there are countless other things that you never thought of, and get really excited that they do. So watch how you find you and Marcia getting excited over something that you never thought about. For example, Jodi and I were really excited when Braylen move 180 degrees when sleeping. What a shock to but him to bed and one morning find that he actually moved. Again would have never thought that would be something to be excited about.

Grandma and Grandpa are also happy to hear about Nigel’s weight gain! Keep it up Munchkin Man. (Also like that nickname.) Can’t wait to see him in person again.
