Jaques Demers Shocker! Gillick Named Phillies GM

The Wings win streaks ends at 9. And it is only their second loss in the first 14 games. Not bad for a team that is used to spending over $70 millions on payroll.

They played well enough to win, but just couldn’t get it done. Or is that “git er done!” The Oilers scored a goal in the first five minutes of each period, and the Wings answered with goals 3 to 4 minutes after. And after each Wings goal, they sent another flurry of shots following the ensuing face off. But they weren’t creating great scoring opportunities off of them. Jussi Markkanen, the Oilers goalie, was playing very well, though not spectacular. It just wasn’t going to be the Wings’ night. And sure enough, when they got to overtime, it certainly wasn’t their night. Raffi Torres and Steve Staios were in on a 2-on-1 break, and passed the puck back and forth leading to Torres’ goal.

Oilers’ Torres (left) and Staios celebrate the game winning goal in overtime.

Like I always say, even the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens lost 8 games during the regular season. So you can’t expect your team to win all the time.
