So Nigel was a bit jaundice, and the doctor kept having us go to the hospital (a local one) to get a test. He said his numbers were OK though a little high, so he still wanted to monitor it. After today’s test he said that Nigel’s numbers are on the downward slide. So things are looking better.

He is also feeding quite well. At first Marcia and I were a little worried that he wasn’t eating enough. But from what we have found in his diapers and what the doctor has told us, he is getting enough.

Marcia continues to improve, too. Though her feet are still swelling up. I am going to force her to stay off her feet the rest of the week and weekend. My parents and I can do what needs to be done. And why should...

Though she has been on the road most of the day, from Detroit to SE Pennsylvania, I want to wish my Mom a very happy birthday. And I am sure it will be partially for her. She said she was looking very forward to coming out and seeing her second grandson.

OK! Here are the long awaited pictures of my son Nigel. Just a warning, I experimented with the WordPress built-in resize function and it didn’t work as expected. All the pictures are too wide. But I will fix that later. I still wanted to post them.

The first picture is of Nigel and I about 10 minutes after he was born.

Here is a picture of Marcia and Nigel about 6 hours after he was born. This was a couple of hours before he was admitted to the NICU.

The following pictures are courtesy of my sister-in-law Paula. They are various pictures...

There was some question whether both Marcia and Nigel were coming home today. But they were both cleared. Actually for a while I thought that it was going to be Marcia holding us up. Not that she would really, but given that her recovery has been painful. (This is one of the many reasons I am a guy!)

Nigel’s blood sugar numbers were doing very well, and after a couple of other procedures, he was ready to go about 7:30 this evening. So we packed up everyone, headed to my mother-in-law’s to pick up Molson (she was graciously watching our golden retriever during this time), and then we headed home. So it totals out to basically four full days at the hospital, though we only stayed three nights.

Now we are home,...

Nigel was doing pretty good, but his blood sugar numbers were wacky. It comes from that fact that Marcia was gestational diabetic for the last four week of her pregnancy. So after a few hours in the regular nursery, he was sent to the NICU (Neonatal/Newborn Intensive Care Unit). Nothing serious, but they could monitor it better there. His numbers have been steadily going up, which means they have been weening him off the IV, so a scheduled departure of tomorrow afternoon looks good.

Marcia is doing much better, too. She was feeling a lot of discomfort last night when I returned. It was the epidural wearing off. But today things have been going much better.

So baby and mommy are doing good.

That’s right! After spending all day yesterday (Thanksgiving Day) at the hospital, Marcia had Nigel this afternoon. She was asked to stay at the hospital for observation overnight, and we figured that it was worth it. So this morning they induced, and away we went! It was super fast.

Here are the important stats:

Name: Nigel Rowan (which you avid readers of the Chronicles already know)

Length: 20 inches

Weight: 6 lbs 11 oz

Time: 1:58 PM

Both Nigel and Marcia are doing very well. As a matter of fact, Marcia is estatic. But I guess that is to be expected.

I will post pictures as soon as I can, but will be held up by a faulty computer. Yes, yes, I am having problems with the PC again....

Yesterday afternoon Marcia was getting some signs that Nigel may have been coming into the world. She was having contractions, but they were 20 minutes apart. After I came home early from work, they were about 7 minutes apart. Then they stopped. She was on the phone back and forth with her doctor’s office, and after they started up again, he informed her to go to the hospital.

On the way there she was getting contractions again, and they were 5 minutes apart. We were beginning to really think that this was it. The only thing was that the contractions weren’t that painful. Marcia wasn’t sure if it was because of suffering migraines that the pain just wasn’t intense to her, or if they were just weak. As...

Pink Floyd – “Wish You Were Here”

Tracks:

  1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1-5
  2. Welcome to the Machine
  3. Have a Cigar
  4. Wish You Were Here
  5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 6-9

Like most people my age, we were introduced to Pink Floyd via their great single “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2″ back in 1979. But my REAL introduction to Pink Floyd came from my best friend Jeff. Of course I had heard part of “The Wall” and “Dark Side of the Moon”, but my listening was limited. Jeff made me sit down and listen...

I am sure all you Red Wings fans know already, and probably most NHL fans, but Jiri Fischer collapsed on the end of the Wings bench tonight and was administered CPR with seven and a half minutes left in the first period.

Red Wings’ Jiri Fischer earlier this season celebrating an overtime-game winning goal against San Jose.

Reports are that he had as seizure and was taken to Detroit Receiving. He is in stable condition and responsive. Very bad memories are brought back when Chris Pronger of the St. Louis Blues collapsed at the Joe during a playoff game in 1998.

The rest of the game has been canceled due...

As I MENTIONED before, Marcia and I went to Dunderbak’s and I picked up some beer to try. I got six different bottles and have recently tried four of them. The other two will follow soon, though I have had a few times before and the other is awaiting Marcia to become “un-pregnant” so she can try.

Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale

Right along the lines of a typical brown ale. I picked up because of the dog on the label, but also because I like brown ales. Though it was less hoppy then say...
