My first exposure to the School of Fish was on rock radio. “3 Strange Days” was being played on a pretty regular basis. They might have been on the pop-side of alternative, they weren’t out of place at all on rock radio.
I am not sure where I stand on this debate. But I am leaning towards the viewpoint that players should wear visors. The recent injuries of Mats Sundin and Kris Draper, and last season’s injury to Steve Yzerman only proves that the game is moving quicker. (And it’s not because two of the three are Wings either.)
There was a time in the league when the players didn’t even wear helmets, as we know. Like one former player said (can’t remember who), back in those days all they worried about was falling on the back of their head. That’s what brought helmets into the game. It was a pretty exciting game. Twice the Hurricanes came back from two goals down. And everyone seemed to be really moving. Some good crisp passes. A lot of tussling around. I think what added to the excitement was TSN’s coverage. Both them and CBC seem to mike the arena. I used to switch back and forth between ESPN/ABC and CBC, and the game always sounded louder and more exciting on CBC. You hear more of the crowd, to the point were the announcers have to talk louder to be heard. It is quite cool.
